Federal and State Acts, allow for a 50mm increase in tyre diameter, for an 80's to be engineered "legally" it would have to have diffs fitted from a vehicle that orinally had tyres within 50mm of 44 inch tyres. just because it has an engineers certificate doesnt make it legal.

Hey mate what is the point of taking it to a RTA authorised engineer if you still end up with illegal mods? cheers

Bezman,
I never said it was legal. I just know of an 80series that was engineered on 44's. I am pretty sure Terry Smith used to own it. And it has been to the around aust like that.
Your also correct theres some ADR's that say no more than 50mm.
But that dosent seem to apply in NSW.

I really dont under stand why its being allowed. But even in Vic while I can get away with 35's I will run them.

My GQ has passed Engineering with 35 Wranglers as well as blue slip so its legal on road with that stuff.
Mate has a Hilux with a V8 and engineered for 37's

Some engineers sometimes interpret things the way they like for the prices they charge. Federal Acts overide State Acts (goto DOTARS). Police RTA and other State authorities are not focused on getting modified 4WD's off the road as we are only a miniority of road users who mainly use on weekends in the bush, and not chucking donuts on a Friday night in front of a main stream "Maccas" audience. The Authorities set and interpret the law not the engineer. Im just saying be careful you dont get dragged over the pits because you think your covered by an Engineers report.

To answer the original question, have 37's on my GU and was fully engineered 3+ years ago. Police and RTA take one look at the certificate, check that it is legit and say 'bugger off / get out of here'.
...it cost an arm and a leg though. ...so it's kinda hard to drive these days.
