Bought a '89 HJ60 2H yesterday and she was REALLY smoky under load. Went to start this morning and it wasn't getting any fuel. Cranked fine but no go. The fuel stop solenoid wasn't flicking over so i had a look around.... Found that the loom plug from the injector pump had come undone. Blew the dust out, plugged it back in and she fired up no worries.
Not a single puff of smoke all day
Was this just a coincidence or could a loose connection and a bit of dust have caused the smoke?
PS: Loving the 60... cruises great, looks tough, sounds tough, quiet down the highway and the light comes on when you open the door!!!!!
Fourth 4WD - first Toyota, I'm almost and instant convert.

Intermittence with fuel getting in = excess fuel in cyl = carbon excess out exhaust right?

no conincidence. Sounds like the pump was stuck in the overinjection position (used when starting the motor) at some point which would cause the smoking, and then got stuck in the stop position not alowing fuel to get in to start it.
