Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey,
i have a stock suzuki sierra jx 1991 model with 15inch alloys rims wondering if i would be able to run 31inch all-terrains without rubbing or any mods to 4 wd.
P.s was looking at bridgestone Desert Dueler 604V (31X10.50R15 LT)

NO, to run 31" you will need 2" sus. n 2" body to clear with no scrubbing. Search theres heaps on this topic

ahh k, wats biggest tyre u think i could fit without rubbing on them 15" alloys? Or just any idea's on types of tyres.. looking to get lift kit later on.

they the std rims with the holes in them?

as you up the tyre size you need to backspace the rim to counter the width of the new tyre - thats how you avoid scrubbing (generally).

so if you're on the standard 15x5.5's you're limited by the width of the tyre you can run anyways.

If you plan on lifting down the track, just put on some 2nd hand 215/75r15s to tide you over... then consider tyre and lift options at the same time.

31s are illegal on a Zuk in QLD anyway.

They are 15" & 7" wide with brand "Alllied" wheels in centre
Thinking of getting these they would fit wouldnt they?
Atm they have 205/75 R15's.... maybe 235/75R15 or 245/75R15 would fit? I will be doing both beach n mud work.

beach and mud both require different tread types though - mud you want to bite and dig in, obviously running that on sand is gonna get you bogged =)

you're going to have to choose a driving style or an A/T tyre as a happy medium... my 31x10.5's are on 15x7's and theyre great.

So to answer your question - yeh 31's will be fine on those rims - but you will need to clearance guards.

Yer true i will be doing beach work so kinda puts Muddys outa my choice...
Thinking these still got a good chunky look too...
Maybe with 2" body lift 31" tyres would fit easy?

Not really worried bout that but yer thats a point, i live in very small town u may no fraser island great place to 4wd well that town u go through to get ther... rainbow beach near ther lol

also with 31s you will need to start looking at gearing cos ya little 1.3 will struggle in the sand

for driving on the beach and on fraser you don't need 31s. As mentioned you will also then have to get gearing to compensate for the much larger tyres. For that sort of driving a slightly bigger tyre with the pressures lowered is going to work much better, be cheaper and easier to do and isn't illegal.

31s on a Zuk are a relatively large tyre that have quite a few other things that need looking at to make them work properly. I wouldn't recommend them for you for what you want to do

Dunno wat this tyre is like but looks ok... not A/T tyre tho. might not be that great for sand but letting tyre down would be ok u think?

Not sure wat other Brands make 235/75R15's but yer any suggestions would be good

for pure sand only driving i'd go a 225/75r15, good 2" spring and shock combo and spend the left over money on engine mods to keep it cool and boost the performance.

Mine went almost anywhere on sand with 215/75r15 and 2" spring lift, just needed a touch more tyre for clearance when i went to rocky stuff.

The 1.6L engine made a MASSIVE difference to sand driving too - of all the mods i'd rate the larger engine up there for mods if you're doing a lot of sand =)

I've got cooper ATR 225/75R15's on my vitara. Briliant in the sand. Just air down to 15psi gets me through 95% of the beaches I drive. Only had to go down to 8 once (driving on a beach close to winter when they start to soften up). They are also wearing very well (3yo and counting, put about 40,000 on them so far).

I feel a good sand tyre is about putting footprint down on the sand, less about what kind of grouse tread pattern they have (allowing for comment sabove about big chunky mud tyres in sand (that being said I've got one mate who swears by muddies for sand driving!!)). The best tyres in the sand I've ever had were bald duelers (they could and did out drive patrols on soft southern beaches). As long as they air down nice and even to give a bigger footprint any AT will be good on a beach

Forget the 235's, go up not out. Lots of 215/80R15s AT's (falken tyres, kuhmo,Pirelli to name a few) better choice afaic. I'll be looking to the 215/85's for my muddies when I've got permission to buy them .

31s are not the best solution for what he needs and advising people to do illegal mods is just stupid. No problem with people then being aware thhat it is illegal and doing the mods then, at least they have the knowledge that what they are doing. But to blindly advise people to do a mod and then 2 weeks later for them to get busted and being totally unaware of why is not fair

Im putting extractors on and 2" exhaust soon.. well i hope too.
ill check out them 225/75R15's range hopefully something around wher i live if not ill go 235 then wait till i get extractors to do any hard work

Don't try and use power to overcome gearing - it's pointless. always get the gearing right before you go looking for power.

Not sure if anyone else has pointed it out, but the offsed of the rims on your car doesnt look sufficient to keep 31's out of the springs.
