gearbox to transfer case tube, really a good idea in a 60 ??

Hi all,
I was just wondering wether this popular setup is really that good. As from my understanding, isn't the transfer case lower than the gearbox and therefor the transfer case would become overfiled and the gearbox left dry???
I'm talking about an '84 5speed sahara by the way.

Although the t/case is lower there is a theory that higher air pressure inside the t/case will force the gear oil uphill,thats one theory.
I have one in my 73 series although the PO put it there as a precaution.
I liked the homemade one in Aust 4x4 monthly with the clear tube so you can see if its working but Im not sure if he used fittings with tapered thread like the original plug.Perhaps thats why he wrapped it in tape because normally you wouldnt need to with the plug in there.

doesnt roothy have a 13bt?
btw, thinking of doing this myself,where do you get the fittings to replace current oil filler caos with ones to take a hose?

it is a dodgy dodgy thing to do. fix the problem (replace the seal between the transfer and the gearbox).
it is not difficult to do even with the gearbox left in the vehicle. transfer rebuild kit with all bearings and seals is around $250. speedi sleeve is around $20 if required. if you can borrow a chassis hoist it makes it a heap easier.

terran tamer maker then try don kyatt theu sell the kits or most 4by shops can get then in for around 70 bucks. but the newr crusiers with 5 speed arnt as bad as the old 4 speeds

i think hes talking about a balance pipe between the gearbox and the transfer case.
i have one but dont like it because i need new seals in my transfer and it drains my gearbox oil when it leaks.
a good point to it is, it allows the gearbox to use the transfercase breather and mine is extended
