Hi all. Im after some advice if somebody in the know wouldnt mind helping me. I have an auto transmission JAP IMPORT '89 Paj TDI which I have just fitted a second hand gearbox to due to O/D issues with the original box.

According to the plate the motor is a 4D56 but the box i fitted to it was previously matched up to a 4D55. The only difference we found was the flex plate and torque converter were different to my original box so we went ahead and fitted it.... hopefully there isnt an issue there but I digress.

I need to know what type of tranny fluid does this box need and how many litres will it take? Also what type of oil goes in the transfer case? The transfer case is off the original box.

thanks for any advice.

thanks for the reply rossco. I did some ringing around this arvo but couldnt get any definite answers because nobody had any specs for the jap imports, all the cross referencing came up blank. BUT 1 guy from my local mitsubishi dealership suggested Castrol Dextron 3 tranny fluid and 80/90 gear oil for the transfer but he wasnt 100% sure. I rang another reputable workshop and was told if I wasnt 100% sure then dont do it so Im still at a loss.

Would dextron 3 be an equivalent?
