hi everyone, ive just been looking at a 1994 2.8 turbo diesel lux. only down side is it has an IFS front. is it possible/expensive/worthwhile to change this over to a solid front end so i can maximise lift and flex when the time comes.
cheers.

unless your heart is set on that truck, keep looking. They came out with a factory solid axle and the chassis are different between the two.
There are a LOT of LN106 hilux's running around these days, many, many with turbo's

It's possible but not real cheap, the money you spend changing it over could do a lot of things to the ability of a truck that is already soild.
Cheers

yea trailgear sell a IFS eliminator kit for a couple of grand and you have option up to 5" of lift with it i think from memory. you get everything you need for front and back except front diff

or you buy a solid axle lux to start with and put a 5" set of springs and shocks in it, and with the money left over a pair of auto lockers too.

The trail gear kit is well worth the money. Especially when you consider it also has the hi steer, shocks, full diff rebuild kit etc etc.
I do agree that a factory solid axle would be less work , but if it were me I would put the Trail Gear stuff in it anyway. So if the IFS one is a really good example and a good price Id consider it. From what I have seen from Locktup it would be cheaper to import their kit fit it front and rear than a local kit to the same specs and equipment levels.

Is the trail gear leaf sprung, if so there may be problems making it legal.
If it is coil then it sounds good.
cheers

Why would there be problems getting it legal? Mine is 100% complied and legal and so are the others that I know of that have been done. In other states some even have coil rear and leaf front legal although I believe that wont be allowed in Qld. Thats why at least two runners I know of are being converted to leaf rear

My fault, I can't seem to differentiate Hilux and Surfs rears sometimes.
