TD42 - Vacuum Pump problem

G'day all,

My vacuum pump is not sucking at all.

I have removed it, pulled it apart and cleaned all internal parts and have reinstalled it.

When pulled apart nothing looked damaged and the vanes are to the specified size and so is the inner diameter of the pump housing.

The spline is in good condition on the altenator rotator shaft and the inverted or recessed spline on the rotor fits snugly with no undue movement.

The O-rings were in good condition with no oil leaking where it shouldn't be.

Has anyone else had any problems like this at all and any ideas as to what may be stopping it from doing it's job.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe a stupid Q, but did you check the vacuum at the pump or further up the line? Hoses do break and crack.

That's ok mate,

I have checked directly at the vacuum pump. Before I pulled it apart if you held your finger over the vaccum port it would suck a bit when the car was first started if you had your finger over the opening but when you took your finger off and tried to put i back on there was nothing.

So to cut it short I have no vacuum at the pump itself.

Cheers

Hi Mate

If that is the case you might look at buying a new alternator, my one failed and it was cheaper to get a new alternation vacuum pump then it was for a new pump

I Purchased it for around 500 at www.AEA.com.au you might give them a ring

Cheers mate,

Unfortunately it is looking that way at the moment for me. On the plus side though, I would then have two new items that I would not have to worry about for a long while.

Thanks,
