Can anyone recomend a good carb for 4wding or what mods are needed for a holley or rochester so it does'nt run out of fuel halfway up a hill climb. Got told a demon carb is the way to go.

I run a holley truck avenger on my 308, hasnt missed a beat. I have had it on steep winch walls and the oil pressure was a bit scary but the carby never missed a beat.

Ran the rochester originally and every time you hit a washout too fast and the front end bounced the carby would flood/starve and the car would almost stall for a moment, gave me the sh#ts as you lost momentum.

I've got a holley 750 square bore carb and every steep climb it shits itself. I,ll have to check out the avenger is it the same design as normal holley carb.

Holley carby's are crap especially on 4wd's.
Two big float chambers that flood your engine going up OR down hills is no good at all.You can buy float chamber sponges to reduce the capacity and dampers to stop float flutter but these don't fully fix the problems.
A 450 centre float might be OK IF you can find one(depending on what you want to put it on).
BARRY GRANT's DEMON carby's are an improved Holley. Uneal for drag or circuit racing but still no good on hills.

If you really want Holley, look on EBAY (USA) for a Holley pro-jection setup.
TBI that bolts straight to your manifold.

Pro injection looks like the go but probably a little out of my price range at the moment i'll have to start savin. I've never been to fussed on holleys but wat ever works i suppose, i've always been a quadrajet fan. I checked out the truck avenger and i reckon it looks like the go if i can't find some injection at the right price.

The Holley truck avenger is designed for 4x4 vehicles and works pretty well, it has the float and balance tube modifications already done. Next best thing to EFI or LPG up hills.

one of my mates has set up his rotchestor on his manifold so the floats only come into action when going down steep hills.
