sierra shackle problem>> ideas?

i have a 87 sierra coil in the arse which is all good the front how eva.. heres the story i brought the car about a month ago and found out it had a bent front diff and had bent n deformed one of the leaf packs so after figuring out it was cheaper to replace then get reset i purechased a set of 2 inch raise springs. removed the bottom leaf to make softer, n brought some standard shackles not extended like wats on there..
but found that with the standard shackles and with the wieght of the car they just flipped into them selfs ntowards the front... ideas please to fix the prob i want to run standard shackles as car sits level with them and less illegal..

ok, Very hard to read matey, but anyway.

You have a Leaf sierra, Its coiled in the rear right?

Front shackles are inverting

Answers:
Remount shackle mount on the chassis or
Ruf or
Make up some anti-inverting shackles.

Anyway, it's abit weird that they are inverting! Alot of people use 2" lift with standard shackles no problems!

Maybe the springs are too short with the lift arch?

From reading this the vehicle is obviously pretty heavily modified to begin with. I would say it's had a full Rear up Front conversion already, most probably with a chassis extension to suit the longer springs. Measure the springs that came off and the ones you put on, odds on the old ones are longer

If someone has done a rear coil conversion its highly possible the front has rear springs. Measure the old spring length compared to the new ones.
You will have to check the bible but I think fronts are 37" and rears are 40".

Anyway he said his springs are too long as the 2" springs! Thats why the 2" shackles are fine...They must fold up front?


Weird :? Sounds like the mounts have been played with..

no pics mate as i just put other shackles back on, yes fold up front thats why i said they flip into them selfs.
i am guessing they are to long. a though tho since i took the the bottom leaf out this will flatten the pack out alot more hence makeing springs longer and making shackle flip forward.

Standard shackle is too short for the spring length relative to the standard mounts.

Longer shackle, shorter spring or extend the distance between the spring and shackle hangers.

mounts moved for ruf for sure.

easy way to check is measure the lenght of the bolt holes from the rear mount to the front mount and let us know what it is.

straight arcoss from hole to hole ( not along the chassis) is 33 inchs.. measured old spring well the un bent one it measured straight across hole to hole( again not along the curve) 35 inchs.. i am guessing rear mount has been moved forward? to moved diff forward..

So hole to hole is 838.2mm

Hole to hole on straight across spring 889mm

Metric conversion. 1 "= 25.4mm

Standard Fronts, following spring curve, hole to hole 950mm.
Standard Rears, following spring curve, hole to hole 1050mm

So they should sit, say 50mm forward. plus flatten, plus some 2"leafs are longer to make up for the arch.

So your spring is hitting the chassis. Folded up forward. not inwards.

Proper Ruf chassis mounts would fold it inwards.

If the rear mount has been moved forward it may faark u up, yes.

Check to see if the mount has been moved, neat welding or bodgee welding..Stock welding is smallish, check other welds.

Just trying to think aloud.

yes cheers "bluesuzy" i think only soltion without cutting and welding is get standard springs and use extended shackles to sit the car lower... it just had me head f#*# for a little.

quick question? standard spring there softer than raised right? or should i remove bottom leaf its spoa so if it drops another inch in the front it would be better as the rear is sagged..

I think i would just put a stock spring in, it will sit dead flat, if they arnt sagged. With the extended shackles...

yep thats extactly wat i got in mind cheers for the info mate... will and swap the springs and return the shackles lucky we spent a lot with the parts company they will look after me.. shits me but cause i first order the standard ones than had this fantastic idea get rid of shackles.. or well shit happens..
