Is this a good deal?

Got quoted $3500 for a dts turbo fitted and tuned with pump tweak. The guy said it should get around 130rwkw. Does this sound right and is it a good deal? He also said that there wasn't any need to go as big as 3 inch with the exhaust and that 2 and 3/4 will do fine and give better torque at low revs.
Cheers

Mate if he's quoting $3500 for all that I would drive to Qld for that deal I was quoted 3g for a turbo and then another 3g for the pump tweak I would be asking if he was reputable/well known turbo guy

it depends on what a pump tweak is.
If its just adjusting the fuel mixtures then that isnt $3k worth.

if its a pump overhaul and boost compensator 3k sounds about right but 3k to do 1 half turn of a screw is bad..

if i were told that, at a place that i was looking at spending some descent $$$, i would be asking for proof. see some of his dyno readouts to prove that 2 & 3/4 is as good as 3.
i suspect its more the case of it easiest for him to do/prepare.
if you have a good read around on patrol4x4.com you would see that maximum kw paper figures arnt the be all and end all.
with a td42, low down torque it what its all about
have your read any of 'dzltecs' posts on this forum, hes got a pretty good idea what he is on about & going by one of his posts hes preparing a good off the shelf kit at moment

Denco when I went to their Wagga headoffice showed me some dyno sheets when I asked why their kits didnt come with 3in exhaust.

i suppose thats with their cast dump, just changing the pipe size. which i could understand making no difference
i suspect different dumps would make a difference tho

yea some "3inch" dumps arent true 3inch right through eg not a mandrel bend.

It's being done by monster performance center in Mackay. He's done quite a few turbo diesels before with good results. Wouldn't tell me what they do to the pump.
He said you can use a 3 inch pipe if you want but there isnt much of a gain over the 2.75 and that you lose low down power.

So by fitting a DTS turbo kit they are claiming 130Rwkw with just that and a pump tweak?????
Or is it a DTS turbo fitted to your already factory turboed engine with a pump tweak also.

Fitting new turbo. the one supplied in the mtq/dts kits. have absolutely no idea what he does on the pump he just laughed when i asked him...
Is it worth gettin an intercooler? how much more do you reckon that'd cost?

iv just put a dts kit with 3 inch exhaust on my patrol the pump still needs a tune and iv got 110hp at the wheels. iv been told you can have them tuned to suit what you want. eg. horse power or economy. it is possible to get good power and torque out of them.

Your mates in makay have got there hands on it.
There is no way a 10mm non boost compensated pump will deliver enough fuel to make 135rkw & if it did it would blow that much smoke you will be on the waiting list for a EPA notice. The DTS kits are very good but I think he is filling you full of shit or he has told you 3500 bucks to get you in & its going to 6500 to get your car out if its making 135 kw
Call Diesel tec & find out what they have to say.

Have to agree with this. You wont see 135rkw for $3500. The 'pump tweak' will be no more than turning the screw. The price is OK but I'd be fitting an EGT gauge also to make sure he doesnt 'tweak' it too far..

so what sort of figures can be expected from this kit?

most aftermarket bolt on turbo kits get you around 90 - 100rwk at the max

so what sort of pump mods are needed to make 120kw+

I have the DTS/MTQ system installed on my TD42 and reckon it is great.
A mate also has it fitted to his and has just had his dyno'd and had the pump "tweaks" and got another 20kw out of it. but still only got to just under 100kw at the back wheels with 35's and 4.1 diffs. No intercooler.
Another friend has an 80 series with the same set up and it is all good guys.
I have had mine on for about a year and it is magic. Very tidy. Great system.
NOT A RACE CAR!!!!!
I have 35's and 4.6 diffs and will be going on the dyno in the next couple of weeks for a tweak.
I had the MTQ full 3" exhaust system fitted which is what they recommended and is fully mandrel bent from the manifold to the tip. Work of Art! comes with the pyro insert point ready to go.
The MTQ kit come with the first section of the exhaust as standard to the first flange anyway and it is in 3". Your man must get a good deal on a 2 3/4??????
$3500 is a good price for a good kit.
Pulls like a train.
I am here looking for a post i found here about 3 months ago with info on a water to air intercooler set up out of the USA...... Can anyone help me with a link to it??? cheers
