goddamn metric vs imperial strikes again!!!!!


i want a 35x12.5 cooper STT or MTclaws on the patrol, however i have a 16x8 rim...so ths sizes zre in a metric configuration..

how the hell am i supposed to know what a 225/70/16 is???

please help!

thanks aus.... im going to try and work it out!... but means while if anybody has the equivalent of a 35 in metric please let me know!!!

also ..why the massive price difference between the 16" and the 15" tires?

from that tyre calculator it seems that the 325/70/16 is the closest to a 35x12.5x15 is` this right?

You will find that 315/75/16 is more common.

Most 16" wheels and tyres will have a higher load rating than their 15" counterparts, higher ply rating etc

I just went to 16's from 15's for that exact reason (not that i'm anywhere near the load limit) wanted a bigger margin and figured that the higher rated tyre should resist punctures better.

fwiw 7 years ago i payed $250 ea for 31x10.5x15 BFG muds (KM) and last week paid around $275 ea for 265/75 x 16 Goodyear MT/R's, considering inflation and the price of oil and the fact that 16"s are dearer i think thats a pretty good deal.

Bigger load rating was interesting with my shorty GQ. With 285/75R16, I was technically able to support the entire cars weight on one tyre (balancing it was an issue- so I fitted 4).

As for working out your tyres sizes. Best bit is search the net and select your tyres. BFG probably have the best tyre chart out of the lot. Very easy to work out what size is what. They have always had the best chart. I have used it for getting the size of other manufactures tyres.

Just remember when comparing between brands there can be upto 10-15mm difference in diameter. For the same tyre size stamp ie MT/Rs measure short.

a 225/70R16

is

225mm tread width
the 70 means the sidewall height is 70% of the tread width
and the r 16 means the hole in the middle.

so to turn that into a imperial size one would take
225 *.7 = 157.5
157.5 * 2 = 315 (theres sidewall above and below the rim, so you need to *2)
315/25.4 =12.4 "

12.4" + 16" = 28.4
so that would probably be a 29" equivalent tyre.

a 35" is usually a 315/75R16
and a 33 is 285/75 R16

thanks for all the help guys.... i have decided to get the 15" wheels and get some 35x12.5x15 mtz

and stil keep 600bucks in my pocket over going the 16" route with tires only
