Yop, good morning all,

as I said in my intro message, I'm planning to go home (Belgium) in a couple of years, but i thought why fly when you can drive

So yeah, Aussie, PNG, Indonesia, Bengladesh, Nepal, India, pakistan, Iran, The "Stans", Mongolia, Russia, Siberia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands then finally, home.

At the moment I drive a '95 Pajero I bought six months ago on eBay for two grand but I got a very bad deal... Didn't pass it's roadie so, bye bye the Paj and welcome Troopy.

Haven't bought it yet cos I need to make sure which model is best for me... and that's where you come in

- 75 serie or 78 serie ?
- diesel or petrol ?
- what's the "RV" model ?
- any "known bugs" on the troopy I should look for ?
- any known very bad year I should avoid at all cost ?

So far, from what I've read, heard and seen, the best model would be a 1999 HZJ75 diesel with less than 300.000 on the clock, look for cracks on the roof and avoid ones that have towed a lot.
The 78 serie has the Hilux gearbox so it's not as tuff but it's got a better ride with its coil front suspension. I should get one for 17.000AUD easy.

Am I right so far ?

Thanks for any input, it's important I get the right one cos Mongolia for instance has no road, or very little, so I can't really afford to get stuck

Cheers.
