Hey guys and gals,
Does anybody have a cheap solution to fixing zipper problems on the driver's window. The Zip won't do the window up properly now. Spoke to Tony at USA4x4 and he's got a guy that can replace the zipper's and the zip with heavy duty stuff for around $150. Anyone got cheaper idea's on how to best remedy this?
Regards,
Brett

1. Rub a candle over the zipper thread to lube it.
2. Use a set of long nose pliers to tighten the zipper itself....(yes it's a PITA job)...
HTH...

I went to a local auto trimmer and got a new zip for $40. Good heavy duty one too. This is in WA though. But try a few locals. I think he under quoted the job really. He said it was a pain to do. So if the other zip goes I'll go to a different shop until I find another one that under quotes!

BJM,
I got my driver's, pax and rear sides replaced with the same gauge zippers as the stock rear (about $230 for all three). More resilient to crapping out when full of dust and other smeg. Only downer is you get a little breeze through the zip at speed when it's cold.
Just make sure it's done by a reputable canvas repairer (for the driver's and rear I used a tent shop here in Canberra - Jurkiewicz camping - excellent !). I used a bodgey mob for the pax side and they did a shyte job. Thread all over the place and pretty loose. Learnt my lesson...
Good luck !
Of course the $$$$$$ option is glass sliders. If anyone made em here they'll make a million...

I'm working on a set of plastic door uppers - it's the window bit that I'm perplexed about right now...

Wooden1,
IMHO the bestop/Steelhorse sliders wouldn't be too hard to copy.
Two bits of glass and two alloy C channels. The catch could be tricky though... I reckon window places could make custom channels for not much (maybe use a common catch too)
The channels would prob be riveted to the upper and lower parts of the frame to secure. Looks easy on paper
Rattles and waterproofedness are another thing...

Gordo,
That goat gets big every bloody time you post
I looked at both the Bestop & StealWhorse units - I'm trying to get the best of each design.....Probably over easter I'll play around getting it to work again...
Will report back...

Yeah running 33 BFG Muddies, bush wacker flairs, HD3 kit from Usa4x4, K&N airfilter, turbo exhuast muffer 2.25 inch pipe... Thats pretty much the main things. I'd love new gearing but hey, that takes alittle more saving's... I've had it since 2000 so it's an ongoing project. I love it!
