Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I have a LN106 and i have started a 4 link rear end on the old girl.
I'm going to use dobbins coil over shock's but i'm unsure of how to tackle the mounting and geometrey set up.
Has any one got any tried and tested ideas? pics would be great too!

I'm not afraid to slice and dice

I want this rig to work first time(do the job once!) :lol:

well that setup looks like the maquarie 4x4 hilux job......with their own johnny joints in both ends from memory

seemed to work

just mount the coilovers on top of the housing?

the links are dobbin's gear and it has all been fabbed at my workshop
the diff isn't a problem, it's the mountin at the chassis that has me stumped.
I want to run the coil overs verticaly inline with the chassis down to the diff but this creats a problem i also want a little chassis to mount a rear winch and recovery points and also have minimal departure but this will be hard if i cut the chassis to accommodate

ATM it still has the leafs, but I am going to go coils and shocks, would love coil overs all round but at the prices I have got so far I`ll be lucky if I can afford 2 for the front.

my rig is not complete and the coilovers are on order, $900 per unit any lenght that rancho has!!
and thats why i'm looking for ideas on the rear end, ie roll cage no load carrying tray,mounting, angles of coil overs ect ect.
i'm building this rig to compete and to go where eva i like and when i finish the rear the front is in for it too, 4 link that is!

I will have a go at putting all details on the members page when i get along a bit

you can't adjust the shock rate easy with racerunner and besides i would rather support a local manufacture. You will find there are alot of people buying these shocks because you can adjust the shock rate with a knob and not by pulling the whole thing apart.

ive seen dudes cut and box the chassis before the axle, then build a rear cage and hoop for the coils overs. ive also seen those rancho seals blow out easy with side low pressure, the rod guide is hell short for supporting weight.

not bagging your truck though, the links look nice and twin cases rule !

if you can fish out a pic of Sam Keckles old Sierra, he pinched the inside edge of the chassis rails so they tracked in board, then boxed it before the rear axle, he was running 1/4 elliptic springs that used the chassis rail above the springs for the bump stops, but then moved and boxed the rails to allow the axle plenty of unhindered up travel/

M&M are building a cruiser at the moment with a coilover rear end, tube hoop etc, i think there are pics on this BB, you would have to search/

keep us posted of the build up, looking good so far

So you would shy away from rancho style coil overs or are they ok for just a comp rig they seem reasonably robus but i guess the seal is a week link

yeah that reminds me
i also heard that the rancho walls arent as thick and therefore not suited to carrying the weight and friction of the coils

not sure where i heard it tho.....but look into it

The rancho Style Coilover that Glen is now doing appear to be different to the ones i have seen in the past. It appears to be a lot stronger and doesnt look like the Rancho outer tube suports the spring anymore. Im only going by pictures here.

I could be totaly wrong but they deffianatly look better and stronger than the Rancho coilovers that Surfection had in the front of his Surf.

So would it be able to dissapate heat properly still .. hmm (not that I am ever likely to be financial situation that I could afford coilovers :cry:
