Does anyone know if the sidegears from different models of air locker are compatible?
eg, would lux sidegears fit on a zook ARB

different axle splines

That's the reason i was looking at changing the sidegears, i WANT different splines.
Just answer the fawking question

ask a more specific question fawker
i am thinking, you are trying to keep a zook centre (clearance) and maybe fit hilux axles? or give us specs what you are trying to do!
you will have to check on the bearing sizes, and the side gears could work, say from the airlocker from the larger part!??
i would dount it could work, but then again i have seen ford 9s, broached to 46 splines, MAYBE you are gunna run some 1.71" 300m AXLES, those 31" mongrels, must be CARNAGE

I thought the question was pretty cut & dry but OK
The deal is i am looking at running some larger rubber down the track (eg, 35s) and am betting that my zook axles wont be up to the task. SO, the idea I had was to make some zook/hilux hybrid axles with zook centre, hilux sidegears, hilux shafts and outers. The idea would be to set up the whole shebang in a modified zook axle housing thus keeping the weight down. rear would full floating.
I know i would prolly be better off trying to use vitara centres but i already have sierra ARBs and was trying to figure a way to utilise them and get some decent strength.
Have I extrapolated sufficiently???

wouldn't you just be grenading ring and pinions then?
what diameter is the ring gear on zuk stuff?

i think they are 7.5". Anyone know for sure?

Why not sell you lockers and ..get new ones to suit your current application...cost effectivness would almost be the same wouldn't you think by the end of it all?

hiluxes are AWESOME oiut of the box axles, with good strenght, light weight, awesome aftermakret support, many spares and parts available and ARE very light, for the strenght you get, i think the suzuki ring and pinion WILL NOT hold up to 35" tyres if you like to wheel, and wheel hard
whereas a hilux will take 35s all day!

All good points
To be honest the more I think about this the more it sounds to be more of a pain in the arse than it's worth

yeah and custom $$ axles and custome $$ housings and custom $$ airlockers
as opposed, to rolling in to town and just having to buy hilux running gear!!
swap in the entire hilux axles
they are the BOMB
i think we have 4 or 5 dudes AT LEAST on here with hilux axles under suzukis, ROCKZOOK, V8zuki, 1madengineer, and another dude who looks but dont post, and that is just around brisbane! and bazuky, apparently?!

It would be a heck of a lot easier if I was down that way i tell ya
But hey, I need to get my drivetrain backtogether first so yeah...

ok here's a suggestion for building beefier running for under a Zook as put forward by a guy in our club, Steve.
"Rear: Build a full floating axle for with a vitara centre and Sierra
spindles and hubs. (this way you also get discs and rebuildable wheel
bearings. the vitara housing needs to have its tube lengths adjusted
to get the centre in the right spot, but this is not an issue as the
axles themselves will be custom anyway, splined on both ends. This is
the set up that spidertrax sell, but with their own fabricated plate
housings. they do not seem to have any problem with strength, + you
have full access to all vitara gears (with proper fit) I believe that
vitara rear diffs hub to hub are not very expensive - I recall talk
of $150 from car busters ( and if you get the diff from the right
model, you already have the 5.XX gearing you need), and the sierra
hubs shouldn't be more than $150, and then the only rear cost is for
the axles, but it may be possible to cut and respline off the shelf
widetrack or vit axles at $140 each. the rest of the job is just
welding really.
For the front, the answer might be to use another Vitara rear centre,
and nab the tubes and hubs from a Jeep CJ Dana 30. (This is what
trailtough do) That way you keep your existing stud pattern, and get
rid if the Birfields for a replaceable Uni. This will also allow more
lock than the birfields, and they are upgradeable to alloy steel
shafts and the new 798(?) forged uni that is used in the Rubicon
wrangler (40% more durable) Once again, the jeep axles will require
machining and re splining to suit the Vitara diff centre, but I
reckonthat the parts should be pretty cheap - I dont think there is
much demand in Australia for 5 lug dana 30 diffs.
This is certainly not the cheapest option, but all the parts are
wrecker available and moderately priced. They also provide increased
servicability and retain the ground clearance that is part of the
point of a sierra. Once axles like these were built, they would also
be very saleable as a bolt on alternative for people who are busting
stuff. "

All these are still up against the hilux diffs which have similar clearance (there would be bugger all difference if any) and just as strong.
And as BJ said b4 lux stuff is very common. It's pretty hard to go past which is why most people are going this way once they want to get it. Or is that GET IT. Hey, i'm only a maller...
This is all down the track for me so i'm only throwing ideas around, thanks for the input thus far.
