who here has done a bodylift on a new hilux??
Did you run into any problems? And what tyres are you running now?

I have heard of some people doing it but for one it is "technically" illegal.

I have inquired with a couple of engineers in the past year and none want to even consider it. I have done my homework on the issue and technically/mechanically there is no reason why it should get rejected.

The air bag sensors are mounted on the body itself, so raising the body off the chassis will not affect the wiring one little bit.

The other thing is that the sensors are G-force or deceleration sensors, which means they work by sensors the rate of deceleration of the vehicle. this g-force twists a small coil in the sensor which send an electrical signal back to the airbag ecu and tells it whats going on and it it needs to deploy or not.

If it were an impact sensor like many of the early airbag equipped vehicles were, then there would be no hope of getting it approved.

They bodylift hiluxs in england and iceland and dont seem to have a problem with it.

It is mainly red tape. also, on a practical side, other than looks, you would not benefit too much with a bodylift on a new hilux unless you trimmed the bodymount at the rear of the front guards. this mount is what restricts tyre size under compression.

bodylift wise, you wont benefit with any bodylift over bout an inch due to this mount even if you trimmed it back.

hope this helps. may I ask why you want to do this mod? you can run 33's without a bodylift on them.

hhmmm yes i read that on newhilux.net, what offset rims are you running for 285s what o/d do they measure? i have big offset rims atm and there isnt a hope in hell of running 285s on these rims ive tried..

im running zero offset 16x8's and my tyres measure exactly 33 inch.
