COMP Upgrade: Billet locking hubs or drive flanges

I have designed a few more bits for the nissan guys to improve the strength of the front diffs. But what would you guys prefer? CNC'ed K1045 Billet locking hubs which use std nissan internals OR 4140/en26/4340? billet Drive Flanges.
Both have benefits, drive flanges are STRONG fit and forget! but you can't unlock a hub? (not really an issue for a comp truck, more of a benefit!)
Billet locking hubs, = as strong as you can get using std nissan hub internals (which should be approx as good as a chromo cv can handle anyway!) and its a chance to use up all the bits from old broken hubs!

why can't we have both?!
i'll say hubs cause i never broke a drive flange or C&P

sorry this is what i meant by drive flanges (like 80 series, the ones that replace the FWH)
(but these are toyota, so they will be similar style)

for comp, fanges. for play, hubs. problem with play is the road km to get to and from.
you could have a blank set and a splined set, drive to and from on blanks n just change the flange over.
If you had cal cv though it would be harder because of no inner groove, unless the cal has a puller thead like a toyota cv.

I want flanges because my car is off-road only.
However, it makes much better sense to make hubs because the market is going to be alot bigger. You'll get guys who don't really need the upgrade buying them too, but no one will buy drive flanges for a car that sees any road miles.
Do both if you can!

Locking hubs for me. My truck spends as much time on road as it does off road so hubs would be the go for me.
I know it's in the early stages but any idea on cost?

Strong freewheeling huds sound great. How great they are depends on the cost .
Flanges should not be to much hassel for cars that are split between road and offroad. Its only six bolts to remove the freewheeling hub and replace it with a locked flange.
Then again i'm still saving for a some cro-moly Cv's, so this problem is still a way off for me.

So if the Hubs will be as strong as the fancy CV/Axles. Then this would be the better option. As it caters for the weekend warrior and the comp crowd.

if you don't drive much differently there should be no breakages, drive like a wanker and and it will either spin wheels or move the breakages further in.

Cals cv's and these hubs... almost garunteed to snap the pinion clean in half..

i must admit i was waiting for it!
all i can say is stick to your STOCK stuff, and enjoy buying spares!
Really.
if a stock inner axle will snap with around 4000lb of TQ, and you aren't snapping inners or twisting off stubs, then you probably wouldn't need to upgrade. But there are quite a few guys that are now running welded or chromo cv's and are sick of blowing hubs every time they go out. So this is really for them, or the ones that really see some benefit in getting a little extra strength, so that they last longer and get further down the track......

i'll go for the hubs, running auto so should be easier on diffs than manual. already blown a rear hi pinion diff and have a few spare centers now if it happens again, just hope its not in the middle of nowhere away from the spare parts trailer at a comp. can always run 2wd in events like obc and cliff hanger. Never blown a transfer yet, have they got a chance of going before centers?

OK guys, sorry for the long wait
but they are finally done and in production!
At last BILLET 4140 locking hubs!
This allows you to use the internals from you stock hubs, and have a bulletproof hub casing. We have given them some serious testing and development over the past 12months, 0 hub failures! but 3 broken chromo cv's
. So these babies will outlast just about everything attached to them

So what if we need new internals as well. The last guy that owned my GQ left them filled with water, rusted up good and proper, One side i can't get apart.

+ 1
if these hubs will outlast a chromo CV and are just as expensive wouldn't it be more cost affective to change out a standard hub rather than a chromo CV, ang easier to change out especially on the side of a track or during a comp?

so how long did the chromo CV's last? did they break the same side everytime, one at a time or both in one go and then one in one go?

sorry, i don't understand your thinking. IE if stock hubs are about the same sorta strength as a GU cv and inner axle (~4000-4500ft/lbs), and then you spend ~$1800 on a set of chromo cv's (~6000-8000ft/lb) and still break stock hubs at ~4500ft/lbs then you really haven't improved too much on a comp rig?. why not upgrade everything to a matching level? IMO we got sick of it costing $100-200 in hubs every time we went wheeling. Do it once and do it right - AFAIAK.

no, been a mix of long and short and inner axles as well. Time for an upgrade, I have a test cv, which when tested shows ~8-10% increase in the stub axle strength, but i am still working on the axle side of things

Oh, you know she will Dan...
Bruce, the temptation is there, as i did break a hub on my last outing... I'll ring her and ask her now, if i can get a set. However, i may be selling the car along, and I don't want to waste any more coin on it.....
But I'm a little worried, as i do have a the cv upgraded, however I do have a few spare hubs, and if I do smash a hub, well i can swap a hub out easy, however if these hold together, and it does the pinion, its game over isnt it....
I think it is a very cheap up grade, and from a "comp" perspective, i can see why you run them, and even on the weekend runner, they will be very effective.
Ringing her now... see how this goes....

Ahahahahahaha Very Funny.
I think that if you keep breaking hubs (at least another 2 :p) I may let you fork out the coin for these upgraded hubs. That is not a challenge either

My point was it seems strange to not offer them as a complete unit.
if you have shit house hubs like me or damage the internals you then need to buy a complete hub and the billet hub. it's starts to become to expensive to be a realistic option. the cost could be cut a bit if the billet hub was offered complete ready to bolt on.

I designed them to FIX the weak component in the line, and at minimal cost. No point replacing or paying for bits that don't fail IMO. Most of the guys wanting these would have busted a hub and have kept the bits or are ready to do a FULL upgrade to the front diff to compliment the chromo cv's.
IMO the cost to manufacture small quantities of hub internals would be HUGE. To be honest i think they are VERY well priced, just think of the time it would take to make a pair? go grab the 150mm 4140 billet from the rack and wait for the saw to cut 2 big chunks, then a quick linish, then into the CNC lathe, then into the CNC mill, then the small internal dowel has to be cut drilled and fitted, then cleaned and deburred all at a shop rate of ~$80-120hr. Small production runs are a killer! You pay for quality, you get quality! I am just glad that Superior Eng liked my crazy idea and had the guts to put the $'s upfront to develop top end stuff (oh and pay me as well
).
