Non-Nissan Part #s for Outer Wheel bearing seal/dust cover

I have to do the brakes and rotors on my Safari. I ground the pad rivits into the rotor while I was out of town. :roll: Hub has to come off so I also need to gets outer wheel bearing seals. The only guy in the province who usually keeps them in stock won't have any until possibly sometime next week. I need my rig on the road for work on Monday. So, I am hoping someone can help me with a non-Nissan part number for the outer seal for the wheel bearing. I have the Nissan number 40227-c8200 for it. I hoping there is a cross-over applications to in Canada - Landcruiser (or even a Nissan truck like the 720)? I thought one of the bigger bearing suppliers might have the seal if I can give them one or two non-Nissan part numbers. Otherwise I will have to put the old seal back on. Ya, I know not a good idea. But if I can't find other ones, it'll have to do until the new ones get in. Thanks, John

just take the old seal with you and have them measure it.

all the aftermarket part numbers i've seen are just the size.

the first and second numbers will be the inside and outside diameter and the third number will be the depth

Do you mean the inner hub seal? If so does it actually need replacing, or can you just leave it? You only need a new one if you want to re-pack the bearing, if your only changing disks you won't need to remove it.

Well, I had to re-use the old seals, as the bearings need to be repacked. No one had the seals in town. New seals are being shipped to me on Wed. However, I think I will keep an eye on it before pulling everything apart again. I was very careful with the old seals , although the inside of the seal that go against the bearing had some bends in it. The other three sides of the seal were fine. lI did tap it back in flush to the hub with the repacked bearings and set the correct preload according to the FSM.

It took me from 11:00 am until near midnight to finish the job. Ya, I know that's a bit slow but I ran into problems separating the old rotors from the hub and also when I discovered that the Safari has the same wheel nut lock set-up as the GU Patrol. Had to find some steel and bolts to make me the fancy Nissan wheel nut tool. Luckily, after not finding one machine shop open, I found a neighbour who had a hydraulic press tucked away. 1500 lbs of pressure, a lot of WD40 and some light tapping with a hammer seperated the hubs and rotors. I cleaned the rust scale off the hub and coated it with anti-sieze compound where the rotor goes over it. Next time, I figure it will be about a 4 hour job now that I know how to do it (I think slow). Not sure how people claim to do this in 2 hours. But then again, I am just a back yard mechanic who can't remember where he set the socket 30 seconds ago. :?
