brian does good work - but this is a "sports bar" not a roll bar... im sure if you gave him a call though he could fab up a full on roll bar though (he's done some pretty mental ones for zuks going up to the mines!).

That one's more for looks than function. There's no cross bracing and the mounting setup over the wheel arches will tear out in a roll over.

Edit: However the exo frames (ladder racks) on the link posted by Alien have got me interested. Not so much for the roll over protection (if there is any), more for the capacity to carry my longboard. Rather that have it taking up my passenger seat and have it hanging out the back.

Also note that a properly built internal roll cage which will be strong enough (ie with cross bracing) to provide adequate protection in a roll over will only seat front passengers. This should also be taken in to consideration.

Also won't be legal in queensland.

Unless factory fitted... (not a zook)

i was going to buy a sierra a while back with a full internal roll cage and the bloke told me that if its a soft top sierra u can have an internal roll cage but i always thought that u werent alowed to have an internal cage in the front at all in qld, i would still do it tho

and the reason i was after a pre made roll cage is because no metal fabricating place will do it here in mackay because of all the legal bullshit involved, liabilities things like that

This seems retarded. Surely a car with a properly designed and engineered cage would be deemed "safer" in an offroad situation than one without?

probably because you're changing the way the vehicle reacts in a collision situation... sure, zuks dont even have crumple zones - they dont even have intrusion bars in the doors... but the law applies to everything in general - i'm sure if you apply with paperwork through the proper channels and get an engineer to sign off on the cage it could be made legal...

to compete in most offroad events, softies are required to have a roll cage and all vehicles are to be fully roadworthy - so its gotta be possible.

internal cages are legal in qld i fit them for living at tjm 4x4 megastore and no problems with road worthies as long as it has a mod plate and complies to standards have to have grade 8 bolts and sandwich the body with 6mm plate minimum of 100x100x6 no need to go to chassis hope this helps

Anyone have some other designs of roll cages? When ya no someone who's a Boiler maker by trade these would be too easy to make... lol not legal tho i guess.

the problem with internal 6 point roll cages in Sierras is that there isn't enough room for them. Your head ends up way too close to the roll bar thus making it more dangerous than not having one. Roll bars are different thing all together as they are usually just a behind the driver protecting the centre of the vehicle from crumpling ut still allowing the windscreen frame etc to crumple in.

that one in the initial post isn't a roll cage or even a roll bar but it's closer to being a roll bar

yeh i thought space would be a problem in a sierra but im only short so it shouldnt bother me or could just get a decent halfcage/rollbar for the back

surely for a zuk you can use a smaller dia, thicker tube, probably some sort of alloy rather than mild steel and it'd be strong enough though?

Depends if you want to use it in CAMS/CCDA comps, as they have minimum diamiter standards.

but can you not provide evidence that your cage meets or exceeds the strength of their standards even though its small dia??

you need to meet certain head clearances I believe and you woul dhave to go to a very very small diameter which would be pointless

Having seen one of suzi stores bars, (not that bar exactly) have a role over at 110kph id say anything they make is pritty strong. I know the metal used is rated high enough for a landcruiser internal bar for mine sites, so id say it would prob be plenty strong enough for the weight of a zook.

tjm in your town more than likely have them or can get them we custom make ours alot of stuff we do is mine spec so is strong they are really strict with safety and just has to have a certain thickness foam wrapping it not sure what size exactly can be costly to get made better off having a go yourself you just need to speak to the engineer you are goin to use before beginning
