Gas rebate on existing gas system

I have a 99 GU which had LPG put on it in 2000. I need a new gas tank and converter which will cost quite a bit.

I rang the licensing department and they have no record of my car being on gas and are sending me out a declaration(or similar) to change the rego to a gas/petrol vehicle. I want to try and get the gas tank and converter claimed under the rebate and declare all the rest of the system as second hand.

Has anyone heard/tried anything similar? There was a thread on here recently about secondhand systems and rebates but what if the car is already on gas and has an ID plate under the bonnet? Does the my mehanic have to replate it etc? Just after some ideas before I discuss it with my mechanic.

Cheers
Nick

According to QLD Transport a new installation only has to be a new gas line from tank to converter. The rest can be used as long as tank is in date.

If there is no record of your car ever having had gas fitted then I would remove the pipe and take it to a registered gasfitter to get a new pipe and whatever else it needs and then claim it as a new installation.

A mate of mine did it with his 80 series. His was an early install with no compliance plate, which means it was not registered with vic roads as an LPG vehicle and therefor elegible for the grant.

So when his converter crapped itself, instead of buying a new converter he got an "under bonnet upgrade to current specs" done which basically replaces everything except for the tank and wiring and he got the grant.
