After my trip away this w/e with the WT fez i have decided i need a few things but could use the help of a few members if possible.
Firstly i am looking into a winch however having the stock bumper i would need to fab up a mount. Im pretty sure MM did this and i was wondering if he/ anyone else would be interested in making a second one up? (paying for your time and materials of course!)
Secondly i managed to do my wrist as a large rock slammed my wheels back the other way (was moving a bit fast but couldn't really afford to stop). Anyway i remember somewhere that someone had installed a steering dampener on their fez and was just after a bit more info on that one too.
Thirdly and finally i was wondering if anyone is interested in fabbing up a second battery tray like i remember someone did a while back (one that sits behind the air box)
Any info/pic at all would be much appreciated.

On the winch - I've got an aluminum bar that's non standard ( like everything else on my Feroza ) so my installation was designed to suit that. I do know that the front of the Feroza chassis is all angles so its a pita to work with. Pics are from ages ago ( it was clean, straight and narrow - how things have changed )
The gray bits are the winch cradle Built from scratch which is effectively two 6mm end plates ( matching the bars inside profile ) that pick up strengthened bar mounts - joined by 25x50mm thick wall RHS sections which actually carry the winch. RHS strengthened by solid bushes where the winch mounting bolts are fitted and 45 Deg. braces at the ends.
The control box won't fit under the bumper as on larger vehicles, so extension cables fitted with the solenoids in the engine bay. This also makes it immune to vandals ( well.. I hope ). The clutch handle as shown has been replaced with a hex drive shaft, allowing the standard wheel brace to reach through a hole in the bar to engage / disengage the winch clutch.
The roller fairleads been replaced with a solid one as I'm running plasma rope - and I strongly recommend you think about doing the same. The steel rope is heavy ( affects the handling ) and #$%^ dangerous if it breaks. Steel also kinks up very easily, attacks your hands etc etc etc. Plasma's expensive but is just so much better

Have you strengthened the fairlead mounts also? Or is it bolted only onto the bullbar?
I'm currently installing my winch and wondering about how to mount the fairlead. I had it bolted to the bar at first, but think it may pull it out of shape with a bit of weight on the winch.

The fairlead is 20mm Aluminum machined as you can see, bolted through the bar into to a tapped steel stiffener plate behind. The original roller fairlead also bolted to a plate in front that used the same rear stiffener
There's not a lot of load on the fairlead in the in/ out direction so to shear off all those bolts would be a major task. Remember its not wise to use a roller fairlead on synthetic rope.

Runva 5000lb winch
yeah yeah I know tiny by you'se guys winch standards..but ive found it to be more than enough to haul Ferozaush's light weight 1200kg out of places that she's got herself wedged into .... i wouldnt say "stuck"
mounted using heavy walled rolled seamless pipe as found on a leander class frigate ...top mount uses the original upper bumper mounts and the bottom rail uses the factory tow hook mounts. the original bumper mounts where "modified" errr hit with a large heavy hammer to fit back on to new mounting points.
oh and getting rid of those stupid plastic bumper over riders front and rear saves me about 30 minutes of hose off time at the end of a run .. god they can collect some crap up there.

Is it some form of warning to wildlife... don't get caught between here and road ?
5000lb - if it works for your applications then its fine - but it might be a bit on the light side for a bogged halfway up the doors recovery ( that's why the roof comes off IMO so you can get out - but then again I've got a cargo barrier that effectively blocks off the rear door for the driver and passenger. )

for the type of offroading i do up here in the north the 5000lb (snatch blocked always) seems fine, to tell the truth ive never got myself stuck bad enough yet to serously test the winch, most of the time its used to just get me over that sodding hump that the open front end got hung up on or pull myself chassis deep out of the sand.

Hows your 4x4 park idea coming along - or is it stuck in administrative red tape ? We're damm lucky here in Victoria - there are still tracks to drive and the authorities and 4wd association are developing a working relationship to protect both interests. its a lot of work... but then again there's lots to loose.
