The 100 has more power in all motors and is heavier, so the week diff becomes more of a week point...it has a lower ratio aswell, putting more strain on te output side......the other side of the equasion is the 100 has thicker rear axles, bigger brakes, larger studs, larger rear diff etc etc all these things were not an issue to an 80 anyway, so the 100 is only remembered by the front diff failures.

The only drivetrain component I can think of, that is not of equal or greater strength on the 100 series (over the 80) would be the R151F gearbox on the HZJ105.

probably a relevant question is what are you planning to do with your 4x4?
tyre size?
what engine?

mate it all comes down to what u want it for if u are useing it 4 touring or towing a horse float get a 100 more luxaury but if u want it 4 4x4ing go 80 caus ehtere cheep compared to a 100 and u could buy lift kit big tyres rocksliders all the 4x4 goodies in under the price of the 100 what im saying here is u dont wanna do any serious stuff in a 100 cause u see every dint and every scratch and it looks horrible and in a 80 its like meh i got my 80 for $4000 with 33" arb winch bar 2" lift petrol and gas and good condition the engin just got a rebuild u just need to look around i gess but 100 series u will be lucky to get a good 1 under 16 grand so really it comes down to what u want it for but the 80 is a good strong rig other than the diffs
