A 2" exhaust with no muffler at all will be nothing but a PITA.

The noise is going to drive you insane.

With any luck you'll get a defect notice and have to do it properly.

Take it to an exhaust shop. you can get a pretty sweet note out of a sierra, with a cat and a muffler, nice and legal.

If it's a soft-top, you'll want a bit of muffler anyway - they get pretty loud with the top down.

The last car I did has extractors, cat, one offset straight through muffler and a 12" hot dog will give a nice quiet cruise, be nice and legal, but still have a bit of a rip when you're on it.

x2

The first Zook I owned had a similar setup what Gwagensteve's described.
They put the hotdog on backwards to quieten it down a tad, but it till had a nice note. It wasn't a 2" system but a 1 3/4" setup.

On the stock tyres and rims, it went like a shower of sh1t.

System on current Zook is Extractors - Cat - 2" pipe with a sports muffler instead off the hotdog. It's pushing 235's on 15x7's.

I'd imagine with no muffler it would sound shite (like the Harley's with no mufflers), too farkin loud and scares the poop out of people! Won't be so funny when you are presented with a canary either.

having driven a Sierra with and exhaust that got damaged and basically came straight out of the engine for about 2 feet and then that was it, I can say you really , really , really want a muffler and cat in their.

how much would a new exhaust system?

from a shop?

There are optimum diameters and configurations of exhausts for particular engines and applications, too large and gas velocity suffers leading to a decrease in output. or undesired change in driveability

Bit of a shame for the "mines bigger than yours" lobby really, but engineering's like that.

I dunno about doing exhausts on stock engines. My Fairmont Ghia runs a Tickford 6 ... I put a 2.5" sports exhaust on there to replace the std 2" and gained only noise. I can't see that putting a larger diameter exhaust + extractors on a stock 1.3L (far less tuned than a Tickford 6) is going to give anything more either.

Would love to be convinced though ... the Zook could do with some extra goolies :)

FWIW I was quoted $700 for extractors, cat, offset straight through muffler, hot dog and 1 3/4 inch exhaust (pretty much as per Steve's suggestion). Thought it was a bit steep, but then I know from my Fairmont that they do tidy work.

be surprised how much just running a cat only muffles it down. bearably loud on cruise and loud on accel
im running commodore cat and muffler.. cheap as bro
its probably lots quieter than what your looking for, but works for me

straight through exaust will do nothing for a stock sierra 1.3 it just sounds like it so people think its faster...to big of an exhaust will have zero back pressure well thats my theory anyway, plus i have a lukey 2 inch exhaust system on my stock 1.3 sierra with extractors and i couldnt notice any power increase yeh it sounds like it but i could have evan lost power for all i no

Im looking for cheap so that would suit me, where is best place to get wat i need for this. i dnt have much idea about the cat exhaust system.

I have 2" Stainless Pipe sitting there, i seen you can get the bends for it i also have tig welder to do the job.

Is there any exhaust system lyk this that would fit onto sierra...

you can get a 2" mandrel bend exhaust with cat con verter made and fitted for around $800. when fitted with extractors i believe a gain of 10-15% more top end power is possible.

if you already have the pipe it will be much cheaper.

you can also get a set of extractors to fit on ebay, they sell for about 180.

try searching for A1 exhausts or beudesert exhausts in google
they are both pretty good. A1 has a few shops, i know there is one in albion i got a quote not too long ago from there.

i put a 2inch system with one offset straight through muffler and extracters on my 1.3 sierra, it sounds sweet when exceleratin and i did notes a difference in power like it holds on better on hills, there is a hill that i have to go up ever day befor the exhourst i would be in 3rd flat at the bottom and it wouldent get 60ks than start to die now i can do nearly 68 and it will hold it, for prise i got quoted 240 fitted for an exhourst with a muffler if i fitted the extracters i got my extracters of ebay new for 180 posted to me door id recoment them top block to.

my mate did an exhourst on his 1.3 sierra extracters strait throu 1 3/4 pipe with a hot dog it is verry loud 125db but dosent have a good note like mine

cheers scott

kool :)

there is an A1 Exhaust in Gympie which isnt that far from me, so should i just ask fro quote of 2inch system with one offset straight through muffler?

With no cat converter? all they do is filter fumes our of exhaust right?

Also would it be betta going 2.5" or 2" ? If extractors would be fitted.

i belive it is illegal to not have a cat converter on the car if it came with one and yes it is for emissions mine dosenty have one on it cose the old one was stuffed but i will put one on later, id buy the extracters of ebay ther the chepest i could find and are pritty good, than get an exhourst shop to bend up some 2inch pipe for ya.

cheers scott

ah k cheers mate,

would the converter dampen the sound at all?

I might go with Extractors - 2.5" pipe with Offset/centre muffler and 3.5" tip.
I wont take converter off i guess

I've played with a car with extractors, a converter, a 2.5" exhaust and a triple flow muffler and mate, it was painfully, painfully loud.

there's no advantage in a 2.5" exhaust on a 1300, it's just more weight, bulk and especially noise for no reason.

what are you trying to compensate for? It's a sierra, not a ricer you're not kidding anyone except yourself.

Listen to all the people telling you to run 1.75-2" and a proper muffler and maybe a hotdog. Loud pisses everyone off, and will piss you off too after a little while. By all means run from the hot dog to the tip in some larger tube, like 2.25 or 2.5" if you really want to, it often helps to lower and smooth the note out a bit, but 3.5"???

Nothing you do to a sierra's exhaust will make a significant difference to it's performance. It's still an old school carby 1300.

Looking for suspension setup before bodylift cus the suspension on it is rooted lol

And yer fk the greenies lol the world is already full of crap polluting it im sure alil zuki without converter not gonna change much lol

I might go with Extractors - 2" pipe with Offset/centre muffler and Tip 3"-3.5"

Why stop at 3.5"?

Whats the story with the ricer "tip" Spend you $$ on stuff that add's performance.
You will not notice if your cat is there or not (the cat has a 2 inch input\output) and will outflow the 1.3 easily.

My friend has 3.5" tip sounds really good. Why would it just be betta to get a hotdog with no tip at end?

If your going to go 4wding "chrome dont get ya home"
It is just going to get wrecked. The tip does very little for the exhaust note.

If you really want good notes get a decent exhaust system (not the cheapest you can get your hands on) with a decent wall thickness. Get a decent brand muffler, a 1.3 simply does not make alot of exhaust gas .. it's only a little motor so your not going to restrict it with even a dodgy muffler that will be fine on a 4.0 litre motor.
make sure there a plenty of hangers in system (where is it supported from the body\chassis) or you will get cracks all over in no time.

Really, a 3.5" tip isn't going to be doing anything useful to the sound. It is, however, going to embarrass you.

Yer guess ur right. What do u mean a decent exhaust system tho? im just getting exhaust shop to fit it all, would they give a choice in wall thickness??

2" pipe... outa converter into Offset/centre muffler with no tip... u's think would be good?

by muffler i mean this http://www.dkne.com.au/2inch-p-311.html
