Is it possible to fix the fluid leaks in a GQ steering box? Can I get a seal kit? Is it easier to just replace it or even get a GU steering box?

gu p/s box has same bolt pattern so it will bolt in. not sure if there is a seal kit avail. if there is and it is something you cant do yourself it might be worth replacing the box

I have just just done my GQ one, there are 2 seals plus some o rings, they are Nissan only parts. The input shaft (worm) seal was $30, i didnt need to do the sector.
however if you dont take the sector shaft out then you have to unscrew the worm shaft from the ball screw nut. The bearings will then fall out, collect them all grease them into place and reinsert the worm shaft, however it took a few goes as the bearings kept falling to the bottom of the nut.

Roodogs sells kits.
Ebay.com.au number 350071784551
IIRC you need a 41mm socket for the nut holding the drop-arm on.
HTH.

I tried Chops method after my leak slowly worked out to 500ml a month, it took about half a bottle of brake fluid over 2 weeks to work, BUT it did work that was 2yrs ago no leaks since!
