V8 Length

Hi all,
I am trying to get a 3.9 inj to fit into a space about 700 long. By my measurements, measuring from the back of the rocker cover to the most forward point (but without the fan) I make it about 680ish which leaves me very little room for error.
May some Rover guru's may be able to tell if you can get shorter water pump snout's and the front pully can be shorter. They are longer than a chevvy and toyota V8.
I have heard a Rover 90 water pump is shorter and also that commodore/buick V6's parts fit on the front which might make sense considering the Rover's heritage.
Cheers, Glen

Hi Glen, i have a 3.5 a 4.4 and 2x buick 3.8 V6's, the buick V6 timing cover is the same as a 3.5/3.9/4.4 so that wont help you. But maybe a commodore (buick) timing cover will fit, i havent yet looked at one but i want to fit the commo V6 cover to my buick V6 if possible. I think the it will physically bolt on but not sure if the oil galleries and other holes line up correctly. If you use an electric water pump it will shorten the front by a lot. Next time i'm at the wreckers i will get some photo's to compare.
regards,
Nick.
