hey, has anyone here mounted spotties on the roof of a vitara?
- how do you do it?
- does it add roadnoise?
- does it decrease fuel efficency through aerodynamics?
cheers

why?
front mounted ones are fine as well as top ones add glare onto the bonnet
top ones must be done properly as cops dont like them.

yeah ive considered front mount... whats the best way? just get some sort of bar and screw it into the front bumper? will they get in the way of the radiator cooling if i mount em in the middle?
and what do you mean mount them properly on top? why do cops not like the top ones? has anyone ever been pulled over for that?

i know of a few getting yellows for having them. even off.
mount them off a bar or unibar like what supercrap sell.
i run one similar on my subi but with stays that run off the top of the spotties to the rad support or front bumper. etc

Are you in Perth Dave?
they ran a crackdown on them a while ago over here also.
look up the regs and go for it if u want.
Drifta, u will need to get a bar fabbed up or run a roofrack with tabs on if u want to do it. with covers does make them more legal btw also.
you have to have an isolation switch at least and maybe plugs on outside.
I know a mate had to take his off for engineering the other week.

If you have Roof lights fitted on a sports bar / roll bar etc... behind the cab,
I'm pretty sure you need to have them un-plgged when not in use
such as the main wires to the lights disconnected to prove you aren't using them
on the street (if you get pulled over for it)
The general rule is:
NO MORE THAN SIX LIGHTS IN TOTAL ON THE ANY CAR ON THE STREET
unless it's set up as said above and only used for off road purposes!
Just my 2c worth. Robb.

no point everyone saying what they did in their state, check your own states laws as it varies all around Australia

I also have a vitara and a crap load of lights from my old Nissan, but, with no bull bar, im desperatly lacking a place to put even a set. With the way the softop is designed I have a feeling there is no chance i can get a set of lights on the roof.
Suggestions?

i have a soft top sierra and my plan is to fab up or cut some existing gutters off another car and weld them to the outside of the rear hoop so i can mount an old ski rack on the roof and it wont interfere with the soft top, if you cant weld them you may be able to rivet them on though it would be messier. i also thinking of mounting my ariel on it too.
