Are 2F and 3F interchangeable?

I have a 1985 62 series running a 3F. It has just developed a knock low down at the front of the motor and I suspect it has run a bearing.Crank shaft regrind $200 new main bearings (first undersize) $370 new big end bearings (first undersize)$300. Bearings are ex Japan and will take 3-4 weeks.
I can get a good 2F for $350. Will it just bolt straight up in place of the 3F?
Thanks for any advice.

might have to do some modification with the exaust.

i don't know about 3f's but that knock sounds like a common 2f problem. something to do with play in the timing/distributer/ oil pump gears...

Thanks for the reply, the knock sounds like it is coming from just behind the harmonic balancer.I am wondering if it may be a worn cam thrust plate.
