i have a 97 2.8itd and am thinking about putting an exaust on it for better sound and maybe more power.. has anyone done this to theirs? how does it go and where did you get it done??
any advice would be appreciated

it might be different but i put a new exhaust system on my 2.3TD... It was a 2 1/2 inch sports exhaust system, mandrel bent... It did sound good but only was loud under load.... Yes, it made the car have more power.... just depends because i paid $440 for mine in March this year and that was the cheapest...

With a turbo, go for a good size system. If I bought a 2.8, the 1st thing would be a 3 inch exhaust from the turbo back with a couple of small mufflers, provide a bit of a bark but not a drone, the turbo does alot of muffling.

A 3" system can be dear and a pain to fit. I do 2.5" for most things and that works well. A single straight thru muffler will usually be enough.
Then check your boost, factory 10psi, rule of thumb 10psi non IC 15psi with IC. Your blow off valve will release at 15psi which negates your gains so set it at 14psi. A pyrometer would be a wise accessory

What have people payed for exhaust systems? and does that include a new dump pipe?

and where do i get a pyrometer from?

Mine is 2.5 inch press bend using orginal dump pipe and one muffler. Cost $175 not to loud but made a heap of difference especially in 3rd gear.

g hope i can find somewhere with a cost like that, the cheapest ive found is nearly 300 or 480 with a dump made to fit

with increasing the bost on the turbo, how do you do that? maybe i should leave that alone for now as i dont know how to do it...

I have a 2.5" system (dump-back) fitted to my 2.8td, with a small straight through muffler at the rear. Ideally, you should have a new dump pipe made to reap the full rewards. Didn't notice much of a difference in performance, and the noise level is fine. For $250 I can't complain.

You need a manual boost controller and boost gauge. Although I fitted mine myself, I suggest you leave it to the experts to fit and tune. If you feed it too much boost under load, the EGT will soar and you risk doing some major damage to both the turbo and the engine.

Fitting a less-restrictive exhaust, in theory, should provide a small increase in boost without too much compromise.

You can adjust the turbo boost by Boost controller or you can put washers on the wastegate.

I got my exhaust done in Rockhampton in QLD but most quotes I got were about $200 - $250

I picked up a 1-2 psi boost gain just with the exhaust.

i have just got back from contacting some more exhaust shops and they all are diffenrt on what exhaust i should get. one place is saying go for 3 inch, and th other is saying htat they must be on drugs putting a 3 inch on my lil 2.5td?? does anyone have any opinions or past experrience with this?
