Another Hilux suspension upgrade

Hi everyone. Great site. I'm about to throw some cashola at some sus and steer mods... Here's what I'm considering thus far:
IFS rears with extended shackles for back+ new Rancho 9012's. (Believe this will move the axle rearward approx 2 inches)
Existing rear springs to front with extended shackles I assume need to remove the 2 load springs from the pack, and new Rancho's. Convert to crossover steering at same time.
Anyone know if, front shackle mounts definetly need lowering?
Also, hoping to move rear axle as close to rear of truck as possible, 4 departure angle and bling factor:P Any probs with this?

Hey dude,
I've been looking to do exactly what you are proposing to your rig.
I've just done crossover power steer (sooooo worth it),
going for shackles soon, and I've just put in some ranchos up front.
Far as I know, you do need to drop the front hangers to make the steer
setup fit (If not at rest, you definately will need the room in articulation).
However, big springs and shackles up front would help this.
I also got rid of the front torque bar (left the mounts alone) for the time
being (Can always upgrade to adj. rod later). Heaps happy with the
travel up front now, and that's without changing springs OR shackles!
Can't wait to get that finished
Also, go with the ranchos. Mine are 2nd hand and feel better than the
brand new monroes I put in there 8 months prior!
As for the rear, Don't know about the axle location, but what do you
mean by "bling" factor? Axle housings ain't the prettiest. Are you gonna chrome up the diff or something?

Always reckoned dual cabs are downright ugly mainly from all that tray overhanging back wheels.
I have a custom tray already, just like the look of wheel in each corner of truck. Toying with the idea of moving centre pin rearwards on IFS rears if that can be done.
Wont bother if it makes the spring work worse but.

Will I need to run shock hoops for the front with these springs? That'll mean I'll need to chop the inner guard maybe cos I have no body lift.

you will need shock hoops to run the bigger ranchos,
why not trim the chassis rails to just after the shackle mounts and then shorten your custom tray to suit

Thanks for the tips fellas. Been reading thru old posts and see that some have said on road handling isn't too flash with this setup.(eg bubs 4runner) Anyone have opinion on this? My Hilux isn't going to be a rock crawler so I'd prefer good road manners.

Admittedly, I have not done the rears, and I have not done shackles,
but with the work done to the front, the ride is much
smoother and softer than before. There is a small increase
in body roll, but nothing terminal. I still do at least 500Ks of road driving per week not inc. weekends and I still fang around, just other cars don't want to drive near me

The ranchos are so superior to the old shocks it's not funny, and if I put
the settings to hard, the ride is firm and bouncy which limits body roll
quite a bit.
My Dad drove my rig after I got it done, he said that it was a definate improvement over stock.

I still do at least 500Ks of road driving per week not inc. weekends and I still fang around, just other cars don't want to drive near me

Well, got scared off the rears in front, how will I keep up with the WRX's?
Looks like I'm forking out for parabolics. At least I should be sitting higher within a week or two.
Still considering crossover steer if I can find IFS box 4 right price.
Sticking with IFS rears- picked them up from wreckers today 4 $150 pair.

If you end up putting the parabolics up front, it's only a matter of time before you remove them and put rear springs in their place. Parabolics are easy to install and standup to heavy engines well but they don't flex. The flex available from a parabolic is probably on par with what you currently have from the factory. Parabolics are also non-finetunable ie you can't add and remove leaves to adjust spring rate. This is not the path that I would recommend. The ride from rears up front is good. I drive 80km round trip (at least) with varing loads and the ride from the front springs is smooth and predictable. You will need dropped front hangers to allow room for the crossover and also to maintain correct castor angles with the extended shackles.
In the rear I would suggest that you redril the main leaves to put your centre pin in the standard location. This is a much easier option as you wont have to have a new driveshaft made and it wont interfere with handbrake cable etc. Seems an easier way to go to me

Stuff your rears up front and fit some XD Falcon Wagon springs in the rear.. all done cheap as chips

what do you have to change to get the rears in the frount ???Just the shackles or do you have to change the hangers also ?

I'd be changing hangers as well to ensure you maintain you factory castor angles. This could possibly be achieved with wedges if you wish. Oh and crossover steering is a must.
