Stabilizer bar leaver?

G'day all. I'm new to this forum and need a little help.

I have just purchased a 1988 GQ SWB st in Disesil.

I have noticed that there is a leaver similar to a hilux handbrake to the left side of the steering wheel on the under side of the dash. there is a sticker above it but it is nearly worn off and the only writing i can make out is "stabilizer bar" and when i engage it a light on the dash indicates "stabil off". Can any one tell me what the pourpose of this leaver and if it is any good? Any info would be grately apprecated.

Thanks, Kane.

Rear swaybar disconnect? I'm guessing . . . my 89 SWB Mav doesn't have it tho.

Yes. does disconnect the rear sway bar. Can be a real prick to get to lock back in again though. Rocking the car forwards and backwards about a foot at a time can help.

Disconnect it and go for a run and see if you think it does a great deal. I didn't notice a huge advantage with it unlocked.

Yeah - its the sway bar disconnect.

When disengaged, it offers a little more suspension flex in the rear end.

Make sure you engage it again when you get back on road. If you don't, you will notice the vehicle will display more body roll on cornering ;)

i got 3" suspension in mine with 2" body lift also, and both swaybars have been taken off and i think the car still handles good on road.

Mine was never an issue, drive along turn left and right 2-3 times and click it went in..

Look in the back of the diff on the right of the pumpkin from the back of the car, you will see it there.
