Roll cage for a SWB Jtop

The way I'm going, I will kill myself in this thing unless I install some reinforcements. As money's a bit of an issue, I'll be starting with a pair of second hand bucket seats and some 4 point harnesses. They're cheap and shouldn't be too hard to fit.
After that, I think I need to look at reinforcing the roof of my j-top. The roll bars on the back don't appear to be that strong and I think they're just there for looks.
Besides, as I've removed the back seats I'm not too concerned about the rear. It's more the driver and passenger seats I'm worried about. I've never done a cage before and I'm wondering what's better - internal or an external. I'd imagine that anything external is going to make it unroadworthy, which I'd like to avoid if possible.
A little research tells me that I'm allowed to install a bar that goes from side to side and sits above and behind the head rests. This would probably be enough.
Has anyone else done this?
Tips? Ideas? Pointers?

(Unfortunately I didn't get a video of us nearly going over)
