what are drop boxes?

was watching a 4wd action dvd yesterday and the guy said his truck had 12" drop boxes can someone please explain what they are and how they work? im guessing they drop down so the spring dosnt fall out but thats just what i gathered

They are bolted onto the mount for the front radius arm on patrols/cruiser/bunderas/rover (all with front coil springs obviously) and lower the mount point to both correct for castor and flatten the arms out which are affected by the installation of taller springs.

Have a search on the superior engineering website and there is a few pics IIRC.

I thought drop boxes are used by drop bears.
