Shocks for Mitsu Pajero Gen 2.

I want to make suspension lift in my SWB Gen 2:
- front: ball-joint flip+adjusted torsion bars+shorter upper bump stops + 5mm spacer(not sure);
- rear: +3" coil springs;

And the question is about shocks? I have to forget aboout Rancho in my country so i need another solution.

I found some shocks for front axle:

Orginal Mitsubishi:_________ext.: 345 mm/comp.: 225
Koni HeavyTrack(30-1456):__ext.: 345 mm/comp.: 242
Bilstein(B46-1794):________ext.: 343 mm/comp.: 232
ARB OME(N18):___________ext.: 340 mm/comp.: 225
KYB Monomax(565024):____ext.: 337 mm/comp.: 235

They are all dedicated for Mitsubishi Pajero Gen 2 and ofcourse the are all too short. I think I need longer shocks. So after some google'ing and phonecalls I found 4Runner front shocks. They are bit longer and they have very similar mounting. For example:

Koni HeavyTrack(30-1421):__ext.: 355 mm comp.: 240
ARB OME(N89):____________ext.: 389 mm comp.: 249
KYB Monomax(565084):_____ext.: 360 mm comp.: 255

Shocks are from 4Runner - years:90->96 with IFS. Can I use them in my Gen 2? Will be softer? firmer? or what? Any suggestions are welcome. And sorry for my english.

Your english is fine. You are easier to understand than many Australian born english speakers. :D

I can't give you any absolute answers, but I'll give you my 2 cents (English expression - are you familiar with it?)

Have you made any measurements to find out how much travel you need in your front shocks? I agree that you will probably need more than standard travel, but have you confirmed it?

On the 4Runner question, I believe the relative performance will depend on both vehicle weight (over the front axle) and suspension geometry - so comparing purely vehicle weight won't necessarily give an accurate answer on relative performance.

I guess I would start by contacting a shock manufacturer and ask for their advice on suitability of valving. For instance, ARB may be able to tell you if the valving in the 4Runner shocks are close enough for a Pajero. You could either email ARB direct, or try sending a PM to "dbongard" on this forum - he works for them. But don't tell him I suggested it.

Good luck,

Scott

I have no bump stops on upper arm(front axle) and Koni(30-1456) works, but i think it's maximum. Ball-joint flip can kills them, but i plan spacer too.

I run standard lenght shocks in the front of mine without any problems.
I have done the ball joint flip and wound up the front bars (85mm above standard).

i did a balljoint flip in mine with the standard shocks and it was fine. i was hitting my shortened bumpstops before i was maxing out the shock. i didnt have a spacer tho.

I'm the same here too. Ball joint flip (no spacer) and very small bump stops and it bottoms out well before the shock does.

Ok. I will check evething one more time. I hope it's my mistake. But today i found some topics about "Rancho and Pajero" and there was suggestion to use Rancho RS99029(ext.:368/comp.:264) for balljoint flip+10mm spacer. So i have no idea.

And here is next question about shocks for rear axle.

Shocks for rear axle:
Orginal Mitsubishi:_________ext.: 457 mm/comp.: 297
Koni HeavyTrack(30-1457):__ext.: 457 mm/comp.: 303
Bilstein(B46-1795):________ext.: 455 mm/comp.: 295
ARB OME(N64):___________ext.: 478 mm/comp.: 299(dedicated for 1" lift)
KYB Monomax(565025):____ext.: 457 mm/comp.: 301

I want ~3" lift so every shock is too short. On forum was idea to use RS99138/RS99186(ext. length: ~520/comp.length:335). What do You think? I can't get Rancho so what is good alternative? Maybe 4Runner too?

4Runner rear shocks:
Koni HeavyTrack(82-2447):____ext.: 507 mm/comp.: 318
Bilstein(BE5-2741/BE5-2351):__ext.: 538 mm/comp.: 332
ARB OME(N86/N86C):_________ext.: 539 mm/comp.: 329
KYB Monomax(565059):_______ext.: 525 mm/comp.: 329

Rancho are cheap junk, there has been a few threads on them. I have 4Runner RidePro shocks in the back of mine and they seem to work well, perfect length with the GQ coils..
