15s on an 80

Was thinking about buying an 80 series and how good it would look with my 36 pedes on 15x10s when I remembered a few blokes mentioning how they found it difficult to get decent tyres in the sizes they wanted coz the 80s need 16 inch rims to clear the calipers.
I'll be spewin if you can only use 16 or larger rims as that would rule out my 36 simex or 35 mtz's from being compatible, and I don't think i've seen any simex made for 16s
Can anyone shed some light on this ? Can you adjust or change the brakes to accomodate 15s, or is the trouble not worth it and you just accept a bigger wheel. ( If that was the case I reckon I could handle some trepadors on 17s
)
Cheers

Only to a certain year, after that they only fit 16s... Do a bit of a search in the Toyota section there is some good threads on it.

Mate, ive tried the search function with no luck, that's why i posted this thread, but maybe i'm using it wrong. Even when I do a basic search such as "wheels" it says nothing matches the criteria.
Any ideas what year they changed from 15 to 16 ?

I think they changed to 16s in 92. lots of blokes still run 15s by grinding a little off the body of the rear brake calipers so they clear the rim.
Do you already have the MTZs in 15s? MTZs and Pedes are available in 16"

I'm running 35x11.5R16 pedes, so they are about, but 37'' Treps would be AWESOME

Thanks, yeah already have them, knew the mtzs came in a 16 but not the simex.
It's good to know that 15s can be made to fit without too many dramas as it'll mean I don't have to sell my current wheel/tyre combos to get new ones

As others have said, this has been raised before. As I said before, I have a 94 80 series and run 15x8 rims. The front are fine. The rear will need some grinding on the outside edge of the calipers (not a lot) that I do not believe affect the calipers in any way. Best to do this with new pads and discs as when you replace them later you will need to take a couple more mms of them. I did this 2 years ago and never had any problems. I just took some off, refitted rim located contact point and took more off until I had a small gap and no binding.
Hope this helps

They changed in October 1992. Some offset rims will fit on the front and others wont, dont take someones word that all 15's will fit on the front and all you need to do is grind some off the rear caliper as it isnt true. It all depends on the 15inch wheel offset and also where the bends in the rim are located.

Ok, so it appears that this has been the topic of much discussion in the past
At least there's a few options of making 15in tyres fit - different offset rims or grinding calipers down a bit, but hopefully mine will just fit straight on.
Cheers guys
