Just bought an 89 Troopy, 2H with aftermarket turbo, full bar work, PTO winch, storage blah blah blah for 4k. Its also fitted with front and rear factory lockers
. How good are they? And can anyone point me in the direction of some good reading on them and how they work?
This thing is doing a big trip at Xmas and wanna know what I'm in for and be prepared incase something goes pear shaped. Havent had time or place to test em out yet

I rate em
just noticed yours is a 89model. are they electric lockers?
I cant fault mine, (80series) apart from the poxy factory switch. they have been 100% reliable for me
turn the switch when you think your about to need them, as soon as one tyre spins more than the other they engage once teeth line up.
Driveline wind up some times mean they dont disengage instantly, sometimes have to rock from forward to reverse a little bit to unload the driveline.
they can be vulnerable to water, some guys extend the little breather tube (wrapped up with wiring harness)

There is 2 types, cable and electric, 89 model might be cable, will have 2 pull handles on the dash, if they are switches they are electric - both are a very strong and reliable locker

I have owned 2 80 series with the electric lockers now, cannot fault them at all, they are a little slower to engage and disengage compared to arb as they use a motor with a worm drive but this never affected me.
cheers mark

Just want to find out for my own peice of mind how these suckers work exactly. Sounds like they are gonna be a handy item according to you blokes

Had the cable ones in my 75, worked very well and never killed them.
just have to use them abit or clean and oil them from time to time as the linkages freeze up if not used. or keep out of mud and the sea
