nutsert/rivnut tool to borrow/hire - brisbane area
Hi guys,
wondering if anyone is able to point me in the right direction to find a rivnut tool to hire or borrow.. I only have 6-8 that i need to insert so if you I could practically use it in your driveway.
I know alderly hire has one but after calling them they advised that its busted and they need to get it fixed.. they are not aware of anyone else who has the same tool for hire. I haven't had a look anywhere else..
I'm looking at using m8 or m10 sized rivnuts/nutserts.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
thanks.

mate for 8 and 10mm you will need the big lever style unit.
The one that looks like a pop a rivet gun is only good for matchbox cars and the like using alloy rivets.
I have a big one if you are ever up this way, I am not keen on letting it out my sight though as it owes me $400 and is so so so easy to break.
cheers bru

What you need is a piece of steel about a foot long with a hole in the end of it (either 8mm or 10mm).
So you drill your hole in the steel where you want the nutsert....make sure you got the right size hole cause if its too big the nutsert will spin and it wont pull up...and then you will need a proper nutsert tool.
Put the nutsert in.
Put the long piece of steel over the nutsert with the hole in it.
Put some lube on a bolt and put the bolt through the long steel into the nutsert. Try not to get the lube on anything but the thread of the bolt.
Hang onto the end of the long steel and do the bolt up with spanner...the steel is long so it doesent spin around.
As you do the bolt up it compresses the nutsert just like a proper nut sert tool.

Yeah not a bad tool. I wonder if they only work when you have 80's porn music playing in the background?shorty_f0rty wrote:good example of what they are/how they work.TWISTY wrote:Can you take some pics when you do it if you have time.....never seen these before, but keen to see how they work.shorty_f0rty wrote:thanks for the tips guys.. got some m8 nutserts/rivnuts this morning and will try the method Sam mentioned to install them.

That's the way you do it when you only have 2 or 3 to doStrange Rover wrote:What you need is a piece of steel about a foot long with a hole in the end of it (either 8mm or 10mm).

Otherwise the proper nutsert tool - mine looks like a pair of bolt cutters - is a must. There was a thread a while ago in Chit-Chat about this and the nutsert tool in that thread was very cool.
