Do i need Tubes? S/stone Xtreme's

Hey all.
My 33x10.5" Silverstone Xtremes finally arrived at the tyre shop.
Just wondering if its reccomended that i run tubes with these tyres? Ive heard that its a good idea to.
The rims i have are 15x7".
If i run tube-less, what pressures could i safely drop to off road?
And with tubes, how much less?
BTW - does anyone know how hard it is to find these tyres where i live! No one can bloody get them.
One place apparently could order them for $200 each. I actually made the bloke ring his supplier 3 times before i was convinced he had the right ones. He kept saying "Yes! we have the Mt-117 Extreme!"
He orders them for me, and i get there and they are Mt-117 Ex. He said "See, Ex for Xtreme!" I looked at the poofy looking all terrain tyre and walk away.
Finally i found a shop which can get them. I even got him to read the tyre sidewall to me over the phone. I havent seen them yet, so i got fingers crossed!

I run 33x10.5/15 MT117 Extremes on my Zook.
I used to let them down to 12 psi but regularly got mud in the beads and would have a flat tyre by wednesday if I went out sunday.
Now I have Staun internal beadlocks and let them down to anything between 0psi & 4psi.
I have never run tubes except the Stauns.
I got my tyres off EBAY.

we've run normal good quality tubes in our 117's since they first came out and have never had a drama with them. from sand, rock etc, they have not done a bead yet. our pressures are as low as 7 psi. spending the extra $30 bucks each on quality tubes is well worth it.

Why?
An extra $120 for nothing the way I see it.

Do tubes let you run lower pressures outright? NO.
do tubes let you run lower pressures without uber annoying beadleaks? Yes... until you get enough mud under the bead the tubes get chafed and you flat anyway.
I ran tubes in my 1.0 for 18 months as a temporary measure. I'm fitting mechanical beadlocks now - at 6 PSI my tubes were starting to get chewed up and I was getting a lot of water in the rims, leading to rust, and tube chafing. I hadn't lost a bead, but once I lost one tube I knew it was only going to be a matter of time before I was loosing more.
I don't consider 6 PSI low pressure on a sierra so to get the tyre performance I was looking for I needed to go to beadlocks.
Tubes are 100% better than tubeless though.

I run about 9 psi on my pedes (similar tyre but not exactly the same) on 8 inch rims and I've yet to roll a bead. Although I don't get alot of mud up here to work it's way into the bead, I'm thinking of a set of stauns eventually though cause I'd like to run close to 0psi

Went and checked them out today. Man do they look awesome haha.
Also ordered in some Tubes, bloke said $15-20 each tube. Hope they aren't crap quality because of price!
Didn't think to ask if he had different/better quality tubes.
Tyres look very chunky in real life. Much better than in pics.

Now you need a set of beadlocks....
These tyres have incredible grip in wet clay / soft soil and at low pressures (under 12psi) you may spin a rim inside the tyre and lose the bead.
Not a big drama to fix if you have onboard air but is a pain.
Happened to me once before I got locks, I was towing a hilux up a hill in 1st low though.
BTW: What is the diameter of the new 33's?

Beadlocks MAY be on the future mods list, At the moment $$ are a little short.
What happens if you spin a rim when running tubes?
Will measure my tyres tomorrow (or when i get a chance).
You're running these tyres also right? What pressures do you run on road (un-loaded)
Have so far only driven on these tyres for 20 mins. Just home from tyre shop. Tar only. They actually feel better (more grip?) on the road than the worn out BFG Mt's, or is that just my brain telling me that to justify $1200??
BUT they are a lot louder, sounds like there is constantly a motorbike tailgating me. This is not a complaint, just an observation, because i knew before i bought them they would be. Thank god its not a tourer though!

Are you sure they are 15X7's? My 10.5 wide pedes on 15X8's look like they are a tighter fit than that

hey jas whats the dia of your rubber???your running 33's right??
I heard the older batches of 33's were only in the 31's
I was checking out them in 35's the other week but the 35's only measured about 33 and 7/8ths
if thats standard for exteames i might order a set of 35's and squeeze them under the zook.

I think the 33/10.5s are supposed to measure in at just under 32. Jas?
If the 35/10.5s measure a true 33.5-34 I think they'll be my next set of tyres.

My 33x10.5's measure at 31.5"
I heard the new 33's were a true 33".... and the 35's are 34.8"
Dunno wether to go new 33's or 35's.
Yeah they are noisy tyres......Like a 10 passenger plane taking off.
I run 18-20psi on road.. 18 if its wet and 20 dry.

WRT internal beadlocks, who makes them? I know of the Staun product, but are there any other manufacturers? I would love a set, but they are a bit exy and think I'd rather send the money to my diff at the moment.

Apparantly quieter than the Simex ET though. Coming from a passenger who commented on how quiet my 31" Extreme's were compared to his 32" ETs.

If they're a set of weekend wheels and tyres then go mechanical.

Cheers
Still seem exy from a quick look around the net. Something I'll have to look into when I get time though.

Mechanical beadlocks = COP BAIT!!!

I measured the tyres, using straight edges on opposite sides of the tyre (While fitted to the car, at the 3 + 9 o'clock points)
It measured exactly 809mm or 31.85". I guess i got an old batch? I am happy with the size tho, I was expecting them to be around this size anyway, from the comments found on this site.
GRPABT1 - Yes they are 15x7" rims. At least thats what it has stamped on them (15x7jj)

Sorry, missed that before.
If you spin a rim in a tyre fitted with a tube you can kiss your tube goodbye. Unless you are VERY lucky, you will tear the tube and unseat the beads.
Not an easy fix out bush if you don't have..
A, Spare tube or
B, Tubeless valve stem to fit to rim.

You'll normally chop the valve stem off when the tube spins with the tyre.

I think it is normally the tyres that are the bait (and the berly for that matter).
I'm yet to see a car hooked by the beadlocks.

i've never had a drama with my tubes spinning. i run 8-10 psi on silverstones, lockers, gearing, and duals, and my empty weight is about 1400 kg's. i have ideas as to why some do and some don't spin, but i don't want to fire-up certain people.

But its Mr Plod that the beadlocks might catch, not the car. If beadlocks will catch me another car I'm gonna buy a set this weekend
. Where can I get the fishing guide?
Seriously though; you may be right, you could possibly get away with them because allot of mags these days come with those brilliant fake beadlocks
.
Anyway I've got to try mine on lower pressures before I buy any beadlocks. All I know is 10psi is still too high for the 31" Extremes on my car.

The point i was trying to make was that a car running beadlocks with stock 215/75/15 tyres is far less likely to get pulled over than a car with stock rims and 33/12.5/15 tyres.

Mechanical/rim beadlocks seem to me to mainly be for the wank factor, expensive, only lock one side, but look ohh so cool.
an internal, nun but you know its on, locks both sides, perfect, but no wank factor.
