rattle can paint job

why? because it's cheap quick and easy.
Further down the track however if I do decide I want semi-nice paint(even though it's very unlikely).... will my tight-arsedness now come back to bite me and I'll have to take the car back to bare metal to get anything to stick??

If you are willing to strip it back down to bare metal then no it wont really affect anything. Even if the cheapy paint reacts with the old paint then you can still strip it back down to bare metal.

Painting's all about preparation, spend the time to prep the surface to be painted and the results will be much better, if you choose to respray down the track will be much easier to rub back and respray.
Of course using enamel on enamel or acrylic on acrylic etc is a good start!

That's true, 100% agreed, but if it's only going to be rolled, dented and scratched next drive out then why spend all that time and effort? You'll feel better about damaging it later too.

i dont see the problem?
oh yeh, australian export. quality A+. Paint is lasting well.
oh yeh the prep work was minimal.
i dont think we even washed it properly

boat paint
you just use a roller to roll it on
it flattenes out as it cures, looks NICE

Wash it.
Scuff it.
Mask it.
Wax & Grease remover.
Air compressor and cheap spray gun.
Industrial HammerTone paint. (it hides all of the imperfections).
Done.
Seriously though, i resprayed my old MK ute for $300. Most of the cost was for preperation tools/consumables.

kennards - hire a compressor and gun!
but then again bought a gun other day for $25 at bunnings, only for painting trailer and outdoor furniture. Compressor was only $150

Something I "need" anyway.
next question. whats the basic procedure for rubbing back a car. What grit sand paper etc as I am completly clueless on this kind of thing.
From what I can tell acrylic is the easiest and safest to spray at home. How many litres would I need roughly for a range rover ute? and all the other noob questions that I cant find with a search that brings up 10000 pages with not much info on it.
Or even better give me some links with some good info on it.

i did mine in killrust ocean. Painted the car instead of washing it.. much easier

HAHAHAHA this thread cracks me up. I'm used to painting cars and bikes in 2K Clear over Base and also triple layer candy pearls with my $500 Iwata and $800 Sata guns....then I read this about painting cars with $5 spray cans. LOVE IT hahaha

those gun's still wont stop tree's, mud and rocks scratching the fuck outa my car.

Guys didn't say that to bag out what you were doing? A lot of my mates have done these jobs. Just find it funny as to see a spray can job...

if your in melb se. milsoms auto paints have fantastic grav feed guns for 120 made by work quip, very nice to use.

you prep it...if your in Melb I can swing by and give you some tips. You do all the prep and i'll be more than happy to gun the car at your place.
You can cut most of the dust out of 2k Solid, where as COB you can't really do much in that sense.

. I wouldn't do that to you! Whent the time comes, it'll just be a "good from far" paint job as its never going to be in showcar condition.
Its got two jam jobs on the original paint (not from me), so its going to be a 2L Selleys paint stripper job.
The hardest part of it all.....what colour do you paint your car!!!! At the moment its bright canary yellow (still has the circuit racing stickers and sh1t all over it). I was thinking plain white, or maybe a colour off a new falcadore. Who knows.

180b's need to be a really bright candy red
or baby poo brown. (or killrust matt green like mine is)
