diff forward = steering prob

I recently moved my front diff forward about an inch, well as far back as I could on the plates. the suspension is stock, now the tie rod is hitting the steering arm when in compresses and rubs a bit while driving.

does anyone else have this prob?
how was it fixed.

I have pondered an idea. here it is.
I moved the diff forward an inch. the pitman arm faces to the rear. if I got the pitman arm shortened by an inch then this would return the spacing to original.
it would effect the steering to the point of not have full lock maybe. maybe I can just adjust stops so that it will swing further.
this mod would effectivly make the steering lighter as I am swing a shorter arm hense making bigger tires at lower pressures easier to turn.

this was just an idea, but am keen to know if anyone else has had this prob. or is this why spring and shackle lifts are used with spua?

dont even think about cutting ur pitman arm and rewelding it as this is a highly dangerous . . basically if u have a prang due to ur sterring ur screwed big time, get sum decent springs and all should be fixed..

My SPOA touched with the diff in standard posi but rotated.

My new setup just touches and the diff is more than an inch forward.

I wouldn't worry about it.

mine just touch too (just enough to polish the paint off the steering arms)... i think the best fix for it is to shift the steering box forward too.

Move your steering box forward.

Yeah, not the easiest fix, but I hate shit that binds :x

You can chrome the box while you have it off too :finger:

it'll self clearance :D

i would take this opportunity to really extend forward and go power steering with a different box at the same time

put it back till it just clears, and keep cutting the sills, after all, you've cut so much of the gaurds, a bit more trimming won't hurt......

yeah I spose the less altering to the steering setup the better.
I will ponder a while and then decide what to do, but thanks for input.

maybe I will go Spoa, or just move it back and keep cutting like drewfus said.
