Your going to pay too much if you source bits to suit individually, there are a few kits on ebay, one whole motor etc...if the turbo is from a supra, it will spool a bit slower than the factory toyota diesel turbo, so be aware of this too.

the turbo came off a 1hdt. my plan was to buy the turbo at the right price get a manifold to suit then make the rest myself, i thought this would be a cheep way of doing it?

are you comparing cheap chinese knock off with toyota turbo?

I'd have more confidence in the toyota one specially if your sure its only done 10k. And you will be able to source manifolds, hoses oil lines etc to suit. Chinese one your gonna be up for custom parts all the way, and it'll always be an unkown quantity

Id pay a bit of a premium for a bolt up option.

I have seen a new ct26 go on ebay for about $400, and second hand for over $500, depends on how many people want it on the day

you can't go past a cheap chinese knock off turbo...for the price..and if it dose f**k up you can re-build it with ball bearing and it would still cost you less then a brand new one and that all it is it's just a name and thats what sell things if you look at the "cheap chinese knock off" the in sides are all the same

and if you do your home work on the cheap chinese knock off you can buy a straight bolt on turbo with out making custom parts...

What if the cheap turbo lunches itself and goes into the engine, its not cheap then.

Do it right the first time, use quality parts and have piece of mind.

So not only do you support the chinese making utter crap, you also suggest that you save a hundred bucks so that you can risk 5 grand rebuild when the compressor wheel finds it's way into the combustion chambers. Awesome

No - not all things are made in china. You just need to be prepared to pay what a product is actually worth for a good quality build. Start looking past the little dollar sticker in the shop and you'll still find well made products.

Yes it can happen with any turbo, but it's proven (fark do i really need to be saying this   ) time and time again that cheap shitty products fail (especially chinese turbos) faster and with depressing reliability.

i think you would be quiet suprised on what is made over there...there is some things that are made over there then brought to aust then has a big oz name put on them. then your told it is oz made.....if your told it is oz made you would think nothing of it there for your happey to pay the mark up on it and shit like that has been on the news a few times

so how do you know the chinese turbos fail faster....have you used one or running one or is it the fact that it is chinese made that makes you say that

Reputation mainly i admit, however i have seen the odd one or two that have thrown compressor wheels spectacularly after only a couple of runs.

Having said that, i've worked in china and seen how they make stuff. It's not just they're a developing country, but it's an ingrained part of how they think that they don't care about quality as long as they can sell more at less.
