find a speed that it idles smooth at. mine idles smooth at 5-600rpm
at 400 its rough at 700 its rough and getting a bit to fast.
I like it to be smooth and as low as possible, around 500 is good, otherwise it wants to run away down hills, not good on steep rocky descents

650rpm.

I'm guessing you have a 1HD-T and it gets the shakes at idle sometimes?

Above 750 as for running away down hills just use your brake a bit.

straight from the toyota manual

1PZ 650 rpm
1HZ M/T 650 rpm
1HZ A/T 710 rpm
1HD-T M/T 650 rpm
1HD-T A/T 800 rpm

m/t is manual transmission, a/t is auto

huh! Thats a good idea! I might try that :?

my preference is for low idle speed, makes no difference for daily driving, and makes the difference between good throttle control and confidence crawling down steep rocky descents, and average control and occasional nervous/unpredictable moments in the same terrain (brake use included)
