radiator overflow bottles

got a quick question and yes i searched but couldnt turn up the info i needed.
i am doing the last of an engine conversion, and the new radiator is wider than the old hilux one, so the old radiator overflow bottle wont fit where it used to, and there isnt enough room next to it due to the airbox.
does the radiator overflow bottle have to be level with the overflow outlet on radiator? can it be mounted maybe 20cms lower?

mmm, just a guess but I'd say yes
If you mount it lower it might have trouble sucking the fluid up to top up the tank, to a degree they are probably gravity fed (3rd Layer)

Distance away from the radiator cap isnt an issue...... absolutely no reason at all why it couldnt go on the firewall for example !
Distance above / below the cap can be an issue on some vehicles.
Rule of thumb says not higher or lower than 1/5th of the overall radiators depth.
Example: 20" radiator = +/- 4" height variation.

As long as it is a recovery tank and not an expansion tank then it will be fine at any height as the liquid transfer is controlled by positive and negative pressures within the cooling system.

Possibly, depending which model it could be either.
A recovery tank will not be under pressure. It will have a lift off lid and the hose will just poke into it. An expansiopn tank will be under pressure. It will have a radiator cap or screw type cap on it and will have two or more hoses.
