i also have a 4 cly 8 plug path

im also i the same situation - my motor is shagged

i dont know if the vl would bolt straight in or not BUT
i personally dont reckon a vl 6 would be worth it
for the power gains you wil get from a vl 6 you may as well just bolt in a vg30 from a v6 path.

i however are putting a vp v6 in very soon and think this is a MUCH better option. lots of performance options and parts available every where.

Is it really that much different ? the rb30 is about 114kw ?...isnt the pre -ecotec buick V6, like 124Kkw ?

get the Turbo RB30 :), 150Kw standard ...add a intercooler, more boost... who knows....

Of course im guessing the V6's are cheaper to buy, but is the conversion cheaper ?

I have seen a Navara with a 3.3 blue holden motor (god knows why he did that) and they had to cut the radiator support panel & reposition the radiator to suit. The RB30 is slightly larger in dimensions & therefore harder to fit. The only thing that will bolt straght in is the bellhousing to the rear of the engine. The rest of the job would be a hassle.

Have you thought about a FJ20 or SR20 turbo engine. Thest two engines are basically bigger brothers to the CA20. These are closer to a "Bolt in" option as there will be virtually no body fabrication unles you decide to fit an intercooler.

These engines go well & are easier to get parts for & are more fuel efficient than a VG30. Probably more fun as they can be hotted up pretty well.

the engine in question is a twin spark z24, not a ca20

I do question why you would want a 4x4 to go "fast"

But as far as swaps go, i would just stick to a VG30E. My uncle has a Single Cab 720 4WD with a Commodore V6 with 31" tyres, and my dad has a Single Cab Pathfinder (don't ask) with VG30E and 31" tyres and it runs rings around the 720 in the bush, on the beach and up the highway as far as engine performance goes.

Just of other note. The 720 has the motor and computer out of a VN Commodore. Which was the first of the V6's so they did improve the engine and management after this. But still for any gains in performance i think the VG30E will be the easiest of 6cyl swaps. As far as performance of a VG30 they can have there fair share of udgrades aswell.

Why not just buy a complete front cut with a TD27T complete with auto and every concievable bit you will require to complete the transplant. You then have the advantage that the car was designed to fit that engine and it is very economical in the process.

have seen a complete front cut for around the $2000 - $2500 mark.

food for thougt and I am partial to deisels....................
