Hey Guys,

I'm looking at purchasing a GQ Patrol LWB and want a 6" suspension lift with no body lift and rang around a fair few places in VIC and im looking at $4,000 installed or $2800 on its own... could this be right?

Everyone that I've spoken too does not reccomend it for a street registered car for legalities which doesnt bother me but also because they strongly say the ride will be compltetly shit which is bothering me a bit as im planning on going on a 5,000km + holiday early next year around some parts of australia

Cheers,
Maciek

a 6" lifted GQ will not be a nice vehicle to drive on a round Australia trip. Why do you want a 6" lift? What are you trying to achieve by such a large lift?

Everything he says, x lotsteen. 3inch with guard chop can fit 37s

$4000 would be fitted, engineered, and all the top gear, but big lifts are usually reserved for people compensating.

YMMV.

Pure and simply I just enjoy and want a big truck!!!

I previously had a GQ Shorty (my avator) which had a 3" suspension and 2"body lift aswell as 35" Baja Claws but that still wasnt high enough for me and I want something bigger.

I saw a GQ LWB at Outback 4x4 in Bayswater and that had 35's and a 6" suspension lift and that was a size that I would be looking at.

Then I was thinking of getting a 4" lift and 2" lift but heaps and heaps of people recommend me NOT getting a Body Lift as its an old car and chances are that were the blocks go may go through the actual body.

I'm going round Australia next year and want 35's and the lift for clearance etc as I'm planning on going bush for some parts.

I already have the 35" tyres (the MT Baja Claws i had on the Shorty).

One of the guys told me that with a 6" suspension lift it creates bad vibration so wondering if anyone with the same lift can clarify this?

Cheers,
Maciek

hi man

people always complain about the driveability of vehciles with a 6" lift because they only do the job half arsed in the first place.

if you are going to put a 6" lift in a swb GQ, ( or any vehicle for that matter) you have to increase the TRACK width to compensate for the increase in COG.

chuck some 2" wheel spacers on with the lift and some bunnings flares, and you will be AMAZED at the difference in driveability it makes,

Cheers ,Jes

If that were true, your GU would look like a Unimog

And that just proves that it has nothing to do with compensating, if someone like you only needs a 2" lift.

Plenty of rigs ove here running 5" plus, and no problems, just learn to drive it accordingly

I'm actually looking at getting a LWB not a SWB... you must of accidentlly misread it as I mentioned I had previously owned a SWB.

The 35" Baja Claws that I have here from my previous patrol are on 15x8's with a reversed rim/offset so they sit like a 10" wide rim so on the standard GQ body without flares they stuck out around 2-3" so I think these rims I have will be perfect for what you have mentioned.

Where and what brand of lift kit do people reccomend and where to get it?

Thats fine when your driving to the shops, but when your on the freeway and you need to swerve to dodge a sheep at 110km/h and your car starts rolling over and over again then what? roll accordingly? duck and hope the roof wont crush your spine?

The police have been told to take more notice of stupidly high 4x4's because of an increase of accidents related to poorly or unsuitably modded cars, which means even those of us who are not that big are being affected. Yes I know its off topic but I dont care, too many big wobbly swaybar removed buckets of shit already on the roads.

So you want a huge lift just because it looks cool?

Four wheel drivers have a bad enough image as it is...

Have you asked any of the local shops if they have done this lift, and what parts etc are required? I've run a 4" on a shorty, and the vibes were easy to get rid of, so would have thought 6" on a lwb wouldn't have been too bad to get rid of?

And you are saying a 2" lifted 4wd swerving at highway speeds WON"T roll? Get real, you try it yourself and see what happens, why don't you drive a stock standard 4wd then? You have yourself increased the risk by lifting your's

Is it legal to lift this high to start with?

what and 39 inch rubber doesent load up bearings? or flipped rims dont? we are talking about patrol diffs here and not toyota ones.

if you are happy with your 2" lifted patrol, and it works in the terrain you wheel in like carparks and bogholes, thats all well and good, but there is abviously terrain you arnt that familiar with that requires a 6" lift ;)

Well honestly I just want a really really really big 4x4 so when i pull up at the traffic lights I can see down girls tops and when I help girls into the car I see up there skirt! :) lol

Yeah Kiwi I asked them and 1 of the 4 shops said they've never done one that big.

The other 3 have done it but one of them reccomend I do a 4" spring 2" body as it will significally reduce vibration but refused to install the body lift cause of the reason in my first post.

I dont understand, I've seen soooo many registered Patrol's for sale in the past 3-4months with 6" spring lifts that i was suprised from the response i got from shops when I was asking for quotes....

says mr 4" lifted patrol. you are arguing over 2" more of PROPER lift than your 2" spring and 2" body?

I think its like 2" or something... I'm not sure but legalities doesn't bother me.
I'm coming from highly illegally modified street registered drift and drag cars so having a car thats too high doesn't bother me a tad.

not trying to be a smart arse but what sort of driving requires 6" of lift in preference to 2 or 3" with the same size tyres?

It doesnt most comp patrols run around 3 inches, Jes like with most his posts likes to think his answer is always the right one.

well on my old SWB I had 5" lift (3" spring and 2"body) and the tyres used to scub out hard and chew the claws when 4x4'n on stock guard with the 35's
now I want the 6" lift (spring only) and modify the guards with the 35's so i dont shew the claws out no more.

Well, that attitude has certainly put a damper on things, so with that in mind, apologies NutterGQ, it seems the people that mod vehicles over here are more mature, and I can see what pi$$es you off!

I probably know the answer to this, but does it bother you that it causes issues for many other 4wders? The more illegal buckets of shit on the road, means cops look at everyone harder like one club recently that had to trailer some modded trucks back from Mansfield as they were all deemed unroadworthy (as it was told to me)... then they had to go clear defects etc.

Calling RN, customer waiting....

oi genius, he has come straight out and said he will be running 35's and doesn't care about any other aspect than being big....get your shit together, no point tryin to bring it back on me, mine has past evasion tests on 35's so I doubt it would roll on 31's given the same circumstances so rather than trying to make me look like the fu-cktard get a clue champ.

There are a lot of people on here that bag big lifts but I say go for it and $4000 is a good price
Mine cost $5500 fitted but that was all the gear drive in drive out

And there is there thing were 4wd shops wont fit big lifts and I am sure it is because they don’t have the confidence to give you the warranty then you drive out of there shed
As they are not sure them selves that they have set it up properly
If you were willing to drive to nsw my mechanic would do it for you

And with a 5" lift in mine it drives down the freeway at up to 130km/h no problem like it was standard you just have to be willing to spend the $ on it and not cut corners
