Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hello guys
Iam just wondering if someone can help shed some light on a problem with my 94 feroza sxII.

As of lately it has been using just as much oil as it has fuel and blows a heap of smoke when 4x4ing and when you giving it a bit of stick( normal road driving it doesn’t really do it unless you giving it abit). It has also been a bit sluggish if you only on half throttle.

I took it to the mechanics last week and he done a pressure test on the cylinders and it came up with no problems (He informed me that it was around 18% leakage and was not too bad), the mechanic could not find any other problems with it.

I have put a bottle of “stop smoke” in it and it has seem to of helped a little bit (it does not feel as sluggish anymore) but is still blowing a bit of smoke under load.

I have been told that it could be an issue with the valve stem guide seals from a few mates (have not asked the mechanic about it) as I’m not too familiar with these?

Yes valve stem seals will do that, especially under high vacuum conditions.

Its not an easy fix either.... the seals are pretty cheap, the strip down to get to them not so. Some mechanics use compressed air to hold the valves up so the head doesn't have to be removed - sounds good but I've never tried it or seen it done so don't know if its me ( idiot ) proof.

If your mechanically inclined and have the tools then its a different story, seals and a head gasket and your done. No need to remove the engine, just the head. About a days work.

Is there anything I can do to test if they are worn ?

No - sorry, if its not getting by the rings then its the seals

I'd suspect the seals too.
Only other thing I can think of is a crack in the head between an oilway and an exaust port, and you don't want to know about it if that's what's wrong
