If you have the Unichip bypass link try fitting it to eliminate that as the fault.

He should have. It could certainly be ignition, if worse on a snap throttle and high load that might point to a leads breaking down or jumping to ground. Also make sure the top hose is not rubbing against the leads. Check all the obvious stuff if you haven't. Cap, rotor, plugs, leads. Also the intake manifolds can get air leaks at the joints.

hi man
If it backfired, It may have blown the " SEAL" that is the failsafe to protect the airbox/mixer during backfires.. check the intake hose from the airbox to the intake manifold, you may find something like wesuit material, or a bit of gaffa tape thats blown up.
you could have also blown the airflow sensor or covered it in crap from the backfire.

My old 4.5 GU did something sort of like that, it also had a flat spot. Turns out it was the fuel filter that caused it. Changed the filter and all was good.

mine has something similar at 3100rpm. the power seems to "kick in" noticably above that.
is this similar to your old one?

Not really on petrol, but thats what it did on gas. Above about 2500rpm and it felt like it had an extra 30kW kicking in...
