hi guys,
just bought a safari snorkel for my 1992 dual cab 2.8D 4x4 hilux and i was wondering is it heaps work to install it yourself, and can it be done?? Or should I just take it to a 4wd shop so they can put it on. Just asking because if it can be done,i dont want to spend another 200 buks for installation.
cheers
Danny

its something you could do yourself, but if you stuff it up, you wear the costs.
$200 is cheaper than a new guard or a new engine if you dont quite get it right. I paid ARB to do mine the first time- the cutting and fitting, and then i did it again myself when i put the surf motor in, but thats more because most of the pipes had to be custom modified to suit.
The hilux is a little different to a lot of 4wds as it picks up air from behind the headlight, not in the guard, so you end up having to cut through the outer guard and the main bodywork too.
And once you factor in the $70 for the holesaw for the main hole, that you'll probably never use again, $200 starts to get cheap.

Is it a new snorkel?? it should come with a paper template, just line it up on the guard and mark all your holes with a marker, if you have all the tools to do it, its worth doing it yourself. Its not hard just take your time when marking the holes.

its piss easy just make sure you follow the instructions and have a nice sharp hole saw cos if you dont you will munt the guard like theres no tomorrow.
