injection pump solenoids

Gudday fellas

Have done a build on a 42T ground up with all the fruit and am in the process of tuning.

the problem is the engine is outa a auto 95 42T gone into a man 92, therefore one has an advance solenoid on the top of the pump and the 92 does not and hence the control gear for the advance sol is missing.

So my question is...how does the advance sol work? Im guessing there is an input from the TPS through the trans computer? can i get a trans computer and hook up the part of it to control the timing advance?

Im running 6 degrees advance already with no power on the sol and all seems to be ok though a bit noisy.
im worried as i dont know if its power on to advance or power off (and the pump builder wasnt sure for those about to ask)
To get the best outa the engine an auto pump advance would be the shite
so advice is gold!

i think the throttle advance is for when the aircon pump kicks in, nothing to do with the auto trans.

Do you have pics? If you are talking about the solenoid under the bottom of the pump, then you have 2 choices, wire with the ecm form the donor engine fully, or go back to an earlier pump. There is no other way.

If you are talking about the tps on the throttle lever, with no other sensors on the pump, it was for the trans.

Hope this helps.

gudday andy

Can i get a ecm from a wrecker and hook that up as the truck is manual and the ecm off the other truck is needed for the older engine outa this one. (swapped engines, rebuilding both, one for work and the 42T as own project)

at the moment its not connected and i have 6' advance at 0.69mm, 25lbs boost, its running ok up to 550-600'C but need to get the heat down if i can to add more fuel and am looking at the injection timing to help do it among other things.

I thought that maybe the tps would be required to let the ecm know when advance was needed and then to switch on the sol as well as for the trans control.

what specifically switches/controls the advance sol? as i may need to get more sensors off wrecker. can i run truck without using this sol? ie how much advance does it give and when?

damn curly one eh! and no one over here seems to know?

Is there a sensor on number 1 injector? If so, you will need the engine ecu wired fully. This means it is controlling advance electronically. Pics would be helpful.

hi Andy thanks for the help mate,

there's no sensor on number one injector. dunno how to load topic pics...not that clued up on that stuff yet sorry.

The pump is the same as the other one except for this solenoid (which is above the fuel shut off one facing towards fire wall).

Is it on the return fuel side of things??

yeah thats the one, once out it has small ports on either side of a sealing o ring that suggest to me that it restricts or opens the flow when activated.

Can i run the engine with out using it?, will it make considerable difference?

Garth,

its a cold start device, it gives extra advance. Leave it unpowered, all will be good.

Thanks Andy...I'll find something else to worry about
