automatic stalling

i have a automatic and no nothing about them can anyone tell me if they are surpose to stall when u roll back wards??????
eg? mine when doing a hill climb the moment i come to a complete stop it stalls or even if a roll backwards 10cm or more on the road it sucks i havent even got time to knock it into netural before it stalls

I rekon your torque convertor is stuffed, you may need a new doughnut. I think they do that when fins break off in certain spots...

its a mid wheel base landcruiser with a 3.4 turbo diesel 13bt
i saw a machanic 2day he said it could be somthing 2 do with wiring harness what ever that means??
im asking orto (rod) as we speak that web site is great !!!!!!!!!!
does anyone no if a normal automatic car stalls when it rolls backwards??

My G wagen will stall under certain conditions. Idle speed when in D is critical. If the idle speed falls under nominal (lets say 750 rpm) when you are in drive then it's possible the drag of the converter, especially when you are rolling backwards (with the gearbox in D) will be enough to stall the car. That's the scenario with my Gwagen. with the idle speed slightly raised it doesn't do it.
I'd check that out first.
