I think we have a young NoOb chicky on our hands :D

You want big tyres.

You will need lift.

Try searching through the suzuki bible abit. Then come back and try some more detailed questions.

What year vitara?
What motor?

etcetc.

Sorry, but i am trying to help :D

Also edit your first post so some 1 can delete it. 1 post at a time in tech ;)

Amanda, welcome to the board and Suzukis in general.
If the 1989 refers to your year of birth and by your SMS style spelling I would say your pretty young ..
So my advice to you is it not bother with the big boots yet.
Learn to drive properly first (no offence intended, we were all young once and thought we knew how to drive on and off-road .. in time you will see how wrong you were)

Get some 235's (not a bad compromise size for a standard vit) and drive it for a bit.

There is alot more to making a tyre work than just making it fit. You need to have the power to turn it as well and the gearing to not make it a pig to drive in the bush and having to chew up clutches etc to trying to drive stuff your car is to high geared for.

Also can you please try to spell somewhat properly, you will get alot more help and less agro if you make an effort to ask a question properly.

Read the stickies at the top of the screen regarding "the bible" alot of newbie questions will be answered there already .. if you require clarification or want more info. Then post.

Enough with the SMS-spelling, ur nt on ur fone itz nt cool.

You need to read through the bible and do some research. Bigger tyres are going to make your speedo inaccurate, affect your gearing (meaning that your car feels like it has less power) and are likely to also make your car illegal, meaning tat if you get pulled over you might get a defect notice which can be expensive and time consuming to fix. If you understand all that and want to go ahead fine, but there's always a downside when you modify anything. Yes, it will have more traction offroad, but with standard gearing that's not always helpful.

Yes, a 2" Body lift is a good way of fitting a larger tyre like a 30X9.5 or a 31 X 10.5, so long as you are willing to put up with the other hassles of large tyres.

Figure on around $1000 for wheels and tyres, $200 for the body lift, plus a big day in the shed if you can fit it yourself with some help or about a day of workshop time for a shop to fit it - so about $600-800 minmum for fitting if you have to pay for it.

There's not really anythng you can do with a vitara to fix the gearing on road (if you have a manual) , so you'll find the speedo reading somewhere between 80-90km/h when you are travelling at 100km/hr, and that might mean you struggle to use 5th gear when cruising (as an example) but also it will use bit more fuel and won't accelerate as well.

Personally, I think you need to hook up with the other suzuki owners in your area and get a feel for what they are doing with their cars and you can work out what you want to do with it. You'll get lots of opinions on here but only you can decide if you want to deal with owning a modified car.

Just some thoughts.

Steve.

as said just drive it as it is now. Learn how to drive it offroad and then slowly modify it to meet your needs not just chuck some bigger tyres on because "That's what a 4wd is all about"

If you really have to go the bigger tyres… I'd go the 235's as mentioned earlier.
Being your from Queensland and your state is pretty strict on vehicle modifications, it would be in your best interests to research exactly what can be done legally where tyre sizes and bodylifts are concerned. It's going to be a big PITA if you get a 'canary' all because you wanted your Zook to look tuff and have jumped before you looked.

Nobody has been mean to you
A few have suggested you read through the bible (which is a damn good idea for background knowledge).
A few have asked for decent grammar & spelling so your questions are easy to read (and make sense of).
A few have offered sound advice relating directly to your question.

Believe it or not... you aren't the first person to want to put tyres on a Vitara. Answers to this and hundreds of other questions are already there if you read the bible or use the search function.

Jas.

no one is being mean, people are giving you advice on how to get the best out of this forum. Communication is the primary way to do so. So make sure you are clear in what you are asking, if people can't understand what you are asking it makes it hard to give answers. Over the last few months a lot of new people have joined and frankly their communication skills are extremely poor making it very hard to figure out what they are actually asking.

So either take the advice on board or get upset and leave, the decision is yours.

*sigh*

I didn't see anyone being judgmental. Interestingly, your second last post was well written and easy to follow, just like most people on here try to do. Was I being a smart arse? Well, I made a joke out of your spelling (which IMHO deserved a joke as you are clearly able to spell quite well), but answered your question, and you've responded with full sentences so I think that was effective. Sorry you took that so personally that you feel you have to leave be board. At least you will have left it with some sound advice.

Sure, I made a crack at SMS-spelling. It does my head in. Yes, we can work out what you are trying to say, but after all, you are asking for advice and being polite by writing in an easy to understand way and doing some research y doing a search and reading the bible before you ask will get you a lot better advice than not taking the time to even type out what you want to say properly.

Your gender has nothing to do with it. You were treated the same way as if you were male, which is exactly as it should be.

Steve.
If you were a male, you would have maybe copped a bit off stick. More so because male 'noobs' are a bit more 'gung ho' and some don't like the answers which they receive (ie they don't fit in to their grand plans of building 'their beast').

Don't be upset, everyone here has copped some kind of stick at some stage and all in all this is a great forum, with lots of informative threads and knowledgeable people, including a lot of young females like yourself who enjoy and love 4WD's.

Hang around for a while, you may like it.

Funny I thought everyone was being nice.

If you were male you would have got a "don't let the door hit you in the but" comment by now, or something like "goto 4wd action forum, itz soooooo mch betta"

The lass came for help, most answers were about her lack of er, perfect, ha, written english.

Unless you are accessing the net via your phone there is not need to type with your thumbs, most phones have premptive spelling that makes typing easier as well. Not we aren't asking for perfect spelling just a vague attempt would be considerate. If you want to sound cool text your mates, if you want information, type and PROOF READ WHAT YOU HAVE WRITEN

Forgot to add, you can edit

X2 That pre- emptive spelling on mobil phones does my head in.
When i'm reading something that is hard understand , I just imagine that I'm listening to a kiwi speaking - then it all seems to make sense. I not making fun of kiwi's , just using an example that people often write the way they talk.

Lets not get side tracked. Amanda good choice in 4x4. Comfortable to ride in and room to pack things when you go camping. If your Vitara still has good tread on the tyres , just keep them for now until you've seen what other people have on their cars. Best way to see that is find a club and look at jioning ( like North Brisbane Suzuki Club ) for instance. You will find people very helpful there , and see there cars as well. In person you can also ask lots of questions and get ideas for your own vehicle when you see other peoples modifications.

Lets hope you change your mind about the forum as other forums aren't any different because the same people view all of them anyway.

Spelling and writing the way you speak is pretty close to what spelling, punctuation and grammar are all about.
If you speak flat out without taking a breathe, by all means write without stops and commas. In general, a stop or a comma go about the same place you'd take a breathe. How difficult can that be??

Oh and ...

Welcome Amanda ...
